Maybe this isn't the place for this but I found this... And don't forget Saanich ran a sting.

Prostitutes on Craigslist

I am really disgusted by what is posted on Craigslist in the EROTIC and on the ADULT sections of it.
Now I know that communicating for the purpose of prostitution is illegal but is it openly practiced on that site.
Women post their services, their pictures and their contact information.
The USA recently had those sections removed from Craigslist sites in the US and I strongly feel that it should be done here and that craigslist should be prosecuted.
Some of the photographs show females that are clearly young. Some are posting photos of themselves claiming to be 18 or 19 but their photographs show otherwise. They use all kinds of code words for their services including sodomy.
Why is this allowed to continue. Do you know that anyone including children have free access to that site?
I am pissed off that this can be happening in Canada and feel that the police should help put a stop to it by forcing craigslist to immediately delete that section. better yet the police should start charging these women and men with blatently breaking the law.
Why are the police turning a blind eye to this? You actively go after men and women involved in street level prostitution why not help shut down this disgusting website?

Saanich Police Response:

Carter,

Ads posted on Craigslist do not go unnoticed by police. Sexual exploitation of children via the internet is the subject of countless police investigations with specialized units being created to strictly deal with it. Saanich has a number of officers who frequently investigate this type of crime, including members of our Child Abuse Team, Youth Section and our MYST officer. Turning a blind eye is not an option when it involves the safety of children.

The difficult part for police is the mass prevalence of it on the internet, be it on Craigslist or any other site. We rely on others, such as yourself, to report their findings on the internet to police because we simply can’t monitor every site on a continual basis. Beyond reporting specifics to police, I suggest you advise Craigslist of what you have found and make a complaint to them. Like any other business, they do not want to be the conduit for the exploitation of children.

To report a specific ad to us, call the department at 250-475-4321 and ask for our report desk. Do a screen capture of the questionable ad to save it and have that ready for the officer when he/she comes to speak to you. I assure you that we will investigate the abuse of children on-line.

You have been a member of Perb for a year with 50+ posts and your complaining about advertising SP's??

If age is your issue either stay clear of anyone suspect or report suspected age abuse but the majority of advertisers if anything are probably older than advertised.

What I find really interesting is that the police response only discusses trafficking of minors, it doesn't address prostitution at all. That seems to speak volumes.

Also, the communication part is communicating in public, right? I'm not sure whether or not it's been decided how the Internet fits that definition.

hmmm, yes shut down all the micros and spas, internet pr and drive it underground out in the streets controlled by organized crime and pimps.

out of sight out of mind, but not gone, just move it into the shadow world

I am not one to promote law breaking however from a practical perspective how do these women gain any type of protection from being preyed on by preditors.

Anything which promotes or affords some form of safety and human rights should be looked at as a net benifit in a world of compromise.

just a thought to pass on

I found that on the Saanich PD website I didn't write it.

I just thought it would be good to post and to remind people to watch themselves on CL, you never know if some girl says she's 18 or whatever and isn't and you end up in the clink. Don't forget Saanich a few months ago ran a sting on CL to catch guys after young girls on CL.

and yes that person was an idiot.. code words for Sodomy oh my! run for the hills!
