Beverly Hills. In the Kitchen eatin' vittles.
people who walk around with 10K cash in their pockets are village idiots...
A younger person I would agree.

I don't know why she needed such a large amount of cash but I'm sure she had her reasons.

What you need to understand about alot of older folks (>70), is that they lived through the Depression, collapse of Wall Street, the Nazis, the Communists, Hitler, Stalin, etc. They still do not trust anyone of authority or institutions in general. Alot of them do not still to this day trust banks and many still deal with cash only. A friend of mine, when his grandfather died, they found alot of cash hidden around his house in coffee cans. He had some money in the bank but just as much stashed away.

I just let them know that i just printed the bills fresh. I don't mind that it happens in front of everyone. I did only once in my life, a Tim Horton's refused to take a 5 dollar bill from me. I knew 1 billion percent that was real. So i told them to Call the Police and i m going to wait right here till they check or either you accept it. They finally accepted the 5 dollar bill. The bottom line the bill was real.

Yesterday I purchased a few items from a clothing shop and I handed the clerk the money, and she counted it out and checked for counterfeit currency right in front of me! I know her for gawd sake, we have been neighbours for years! I was so insulted that she did not trust me!

What happened to trust in this world? I really began to notice how many people do this...I was taught to count the money behind the till where the customer could not be offended! But everywhere, Starbucks, Save-on, etc...people take the bills and count out and even put it under the counterfeit detector right in front of everyone!

Most of these other responders are wrong with their understanding of why this was done to you, by someone you have known for years.

It is not about liability for the cash, or for cameras or any of that other crap. She blatantly checked the money from you so that she can easily justify doing the very same thing for the next customer, who will look like whatevercounterfeitersaresupposedtolooklike.

If you are checking the bills handed to you by a desirable white barbie (or the like), nobody can grumble if you check the bills handed to you by (insert label for minority race of the hour on CBC) 45 seconds later.

And yes, perhaps there is some "liability" in that.

A long time ago I did some work for a really nice guy who I was friends with.

He paid me in cash and I put it in my pocket. He said to me "Aren't you going to count it?" and I said "Nah, you're a good guy, I trust you" and he said "Let's keep it that way, count it!"

He explained that just in case anything happened (maybe he miscounted, maybe I accidentally drop a bill, whatever) I would know that he'd given me the right amount and not doubt him if I counted it.

better safe than sorry

hmmmm.... hunsy, it must be a terribly clever conceit as I can see no harm in it to myself. The only offensive thing I find in Barbie, is that her waistline is too small to comfortably eat a really good hamburger! With fries and gravy!

The rest of his message is bang on....take that how you may....it has been a good education for me to read all the responses here and I am now quite humbled in my opinion on the practice of counting money when receiving it for services or purchases.

It is obvious that the practice of counting and checking for counterfeits is a necessary procedure that allows us all to maintain our peace of mind and thereby contribute to our enjoyment of our business interactions. The consistency of this practice with all individuals regardless of race, creed, or relationship, protects us from the very few dishonest people in this world.

I shall never again rail against this procedure being done to me, but, will stand by, with proper respect for the receiver of payment, and with an attitude befitting a mature adult.
