Pinching a loaf is a very serious topic and retaining a permanent record of one's bowel movements is an excellent method to track your health.
1a. After taking said dump observe its physical characteristics and rate it according to the Bristol Stool Scale

1b. If doubtful how to classify your scat take a photograph and circulate it among your friends and colleagues for a consensus vote
2. Take in several deep breaths and make note of your poo's odor and pungentness.
3. With a spatula take a sample and store in a small sealed receptacle for future study and reference
Seriously, I don't spend excessive amounts of time studying my crap but if I don't feel good or after taking a dump it seems like I've dropped a lung I'll take a look in the bowl and make sure there isn't anything untoward.
