I think this is a pretty cool idea. The upside is that you can get things done super fast. The downside seems to be you have to be willing to be public about your identity, which some people might not like.

I don't have an iphone, so this is sort of irrelevant for me. But I like to keep up to date with what's going on so I don't become out of touch :p

Vancouver-made Ayoudo apps the ante, rolls out across Canada

A made-in Vancouver social media tool that helps users knock off things on their to-do list is reaching out to the rest of the country.

Ayoudo, a free location-based app people can use to hire someone with a chore or task that never seems to get done, will be rolling out to 50 cities and neighbourhoods across Canada this week.

“(There’s a) disconnect between people who have the time and expertise and need to make a living, and … people who are completely overwhelmed and have to-do lists they’ll never get to do,” Ayoudo CEO Michael Tippett said Sunday.

If you want help to mow the lawn, plan a party or even assemble your IKEA furniture, users can offer a fee. And if you’re looking to do work, you can name your price for your services.

“(Ayoudo) gives people work and free people up from their oppressive to-do lists so they can enjoy their lives,” Tippett said.

He said since people sign in using Facebook, it’s more secure and reliable than on sites like Craigslist. People can also rate their experiences with other users once the task is completed.

There are 100 jobs a day posted on the site, which amounts to $20,000 worth of work, he added.

Tippett said he was optimistic that Ayoudo would generate a lot of online buzz, but was worried how people would react to it.

“We’ve been pretty overwhelmed and amazed at how much attention people are paying to it and how useful they’re finding it,” he added.

I am not sure what demographic this will cater to .. Those that use face book are the 20 to 50 group ,, The area that has more work that need s to be done is the 60 to 80 age people .. I know that as a kid and wen i first started working I was getting little jobs for the elderly , cutting grass, fixing things and was allway doing that for my parent too :)

I never perused it that much . found it to be a pain some time . and i never charged that much .. Later one I did see that I could make good hourly rates ..

Now i am wondering if I should just advertise to do these little job that people have in every home , that have gone on for too long . Not sure if Face book would be the place to go the elderly still hesitate to us computers

I think the demographic is probably middle class and upper middle class people in their 20s-50s who have one time chores that they need done. For example, putting together a piece of Ikea furniture, or cleaning the gutters, or hauling some junk away.

I have a friend in her 30s who despises doing laundry and vacuuming, but she doesn't want to hire a cleaning company. She hired one of her friends who was in-between jobs to do these things for her. I see her as the sort of person who might use this app.

I would consider using this service if I needed help picking up furniture from Ikea, since I don't have a van. I have one friend with a van, but if he wasn't around, then I would probably turn to this app rather than Craigslist.

After a highly successful launch in Vancouver, Ayoudo spreads its wings to 50 cities and neighborhoods in Canada by this coming July 1st. Looking forward to seeing more tech startups in Van make it BIG. Then once they've reached Instagram proportions the principals and major shareholders suddenly become " unfriendly " lol. Vancouver will never become a Silicon Valley either tech or plastic surgery-wise but its nice to see all those creative and talented Vancourites creating their own startups all around the city with the hopes of achieving their dreams.
