NEW DELHI - One of the men sentenced to death for raping and killing a woman in a brutal 2012 gang attack on a New Delhi bus says in a TV documentary that if their victim had not fought back she would not have been killed.

Instead, the 23-year-old woman should have remained silent and allowed the rape, said Mukesh Singh, who was driving the bus for much of the time that the woman was being attacked.

Singh was among four men convicted and sentenced to be executed for the rape-murder - a crime that shocked Indians and prompted hundreds of thousands to take to the streets in protest. In response, India's government rushed legislation doubling prison terms for rapists to 20 years and criminalizing voyeurism, stalking and the trafficking of women.

Activists noted that Singh showed no remorse for the crime, and said the planned broadcast of his comments on Sunday would be an insult to the memory of the woman.

Well perhaps, in prison, he will have the chance to decide for himself - whether fighting back is provocation...

Oh Guillotine ....where have you gone ?

The guy has no respect, no empathy for the other sex and most likely anyone for that matter . What would his mom, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, wife and maybe daughter(s) think ?

assholes are nuisances, this guy is scum and shouldn't be allowed to live.
I think he is scheduled to be executed.
In various countries/cultures around the world women are certainly not treated as equal to men, and many men think that a woman out in public after a certain hour is fair game.
However, I don't think that we, in Canada, should be too smug. Granted, we have equality in the law. But there is still a way to go in our society before everyone is treated equally. The culture in sports and university with respect to sexual assaults, which has been in the news recently shows that we (North American Society) still have work to do in this area. I think it's important to be mindful of one's prejudices and be aware of how they affect our thoughts and feelings towards others.
Reading various posts on this Board there are many times when I have felt that the poster does not see the escort as his equal, but rather as something bought and paid for. Even grading someone's looks on a scale strikes me as somewhat demeaning.
There is room for improvement in all of us, and reading something like this makes me reflect on my own prejudices and the way I see other people.

Not just this guy, but hundreds of millions of males in his country share his view.
A serious "cultural" ill in the world's largest democracy.
Old habits are hard to break, and rape is characteristic there.

It'll take a lot of social informing & redirection in a country where there are huge holes in the education system.
And a lot of push for very visible justice from the top levels of a male dominated government & judiciary to make headway against this deep-rooted misogyny.

Guys like that ,should just have an appointment with a nice tall tree...and a real short rope.
Nobody can hide behind cultural beliefs ,when it comes to rape or murder...Being involved in a single incident when both crimes happen ,and showing no remorse afterwards makes me sick to my soul....
Give him ten minutes with me, or perhaps a few other guys around here... in a locked room....If he manages to survive my counciling session...He will show remorse.

My thoughts exactly. This needs to be brought up outside the "hobby" community as well.
Sadly this turd will be going to prison with other turds who share his belief system. He likely won't be attacked in the shower and showed who's boss. This planet and the way we view each other as a whole needs to change drastically. Things are changing, but the pace is too slow. In some ways we are going backwards. This kind of violence makes me sick. Women are stoned to death for infidelity in certain countries, and this shit stain gets to live? And have a platform on which to voice his opinions? Give me a break.

His attitude is being brought to Canada by many immigrants.

We have had to deal it where I work. We hired a well educated guy who seemed pretty decent. About a week later a female manager asked him to do something. I checked on him later to see how he was doing on the assigned task. He hadn't even started and I asked him why.
"Oh I don't take orders from a woman".

They have a real problem in India. It seems to be worse there than other places too. Why is that? I have a theory.

India has Bollywood, and Indians spend a lot of time watching and following Bollywood. It's a massive national pastime. A lot of Bollywood movies center around impossible romances and idealized lust situations that are neither consummated on screen nor reflect the reality of their society whatsoever.

However Indians have totally unfettered access to American style porn. They are probably among the largest consumer in the world of pornography. Porn is filling in the blanks for the men there who 99% have no hope of having that kind of sex even if they had a girlfriend or wife. But that style of pornography is completely out of whack with the realities of Indian social norms. It's a total culture clash that is killing their society. It's like a poison to Indian men, much like alcohol was poisonous to Aboriginal peoples in North America. It doesn't absolve these idiots from the heinous things they did, every adult should know better. But if you ever wondered why in India in particular this is a problem, and aren't satisfied with the explanation that they are somehow more misogynistic than others, then what I have presented is one possible explanation.

If you hang around internet discussion forums labeled as "Desi" and read about what they like in porn and their attitudes towards non-Indian women (a lot is posted in English), you'll be in for the shock of your life.

Lastly, I think I know what is meant by his words, "if their victim had not fought back she would not have been killed". He wasn't just being a total asshole, he was describing what he thinks is the social/legal situation in India - that according to him, girls are raped all the time and it basically the norm, however traditionally social penalties have been slight to none, though now legal penalties have reached a level of severity that makes it now impossible for an offender to resume a normal life after conviction. Should he eventually see release from jail (if his jail term is not death), he knows his life is over anyways because of the way Indian society is going, which is only beginning to not accept this. In his calculus, the victim puts up and shuts up, or the asshole must rid of the evidence because he cannot face the consequences which seem unfair to him when society has silently allowed such behaviour.

Yes but luckily that attitude is watered down so that rape and other vicious crimes like it are not common place here. The reason it gets watered down, despite the large insular Indian communities in Canada is because at some key levels, individual Indians must interface with the norms of Canadian society that shun these attitudes. For example, I'll bet that when he said "Oh I don't take orders from a woman", he was met either with derision or silence. In India, he probably would've been given a high-five and someone would've made nasty gossip about her and gotten her fired for being too bossy.

Prevailing old school attitudes towards women in these countries have never changed. His comment that young women should be home at 9 PM doing dishes and not wearing inappropriate clothes at a disco is how these people actually think. Talk about a fucked up attitude towards another human's life saying she should not have fought back and should have accepted the rape. Now with the death penalty they are predicting more women will be killed during a rape?

Only word I can think of for this way of thinking is "barbaric".

How can the West respect any country that allows its citizens to be murdered in such a way?

Hope you fired his ass!
Yep! That decision was above my pay grade, it came right from the top.

A guy like that is really a ticking time bomb. It`s just a matter of time before he does something really bad. As an employer, if you know of his attitude you bear some of the responsibility when it happens. And you can be held liable for allowing it to happen.

This is the kind of attitude I've learned to watch for when screening clients. I had to see clients like this when I worked at an agency because we weren't allowed to refuse, but now I never see anyone with a disrespectful attitude. I would rather not make money than be treated like that.

As someone with an east indian background I remember when this story broke a couple years ago, everyone from my close ones here in Vancouver to extended family in India felt the effects of this tragedy. Made EVERYONE sick to their absolute core, there's no words for POS like these 4. One of the most brutal and inhumane things that can ever happen to a person, how terrible.

In Delhi, there is a group called the moral police which brutally attack and torture couples that are seen in public holding hands or kissing. When i was with my gf before I made a serious consideration of travelling back home to India with her for a vacation but things like that kept me from taking her with me since she stands out due to her fair skin and western style clothing. I love India, it is my home, but disregard for life like this and worthless scums of the earth like the one in the video make it very hard.
