congratulating team Canada for winning gold medal in Women Hockey.

It was a really nice and well deserved win especially on arch rival USA.

I salute you the women power. I am really proud of you.

I was out this morning and was listening to it in the car when we were down 2 - 0.

When I got home we scored and then tied it up with less than a minute to go. You could see the American Team's spirit sink at that point. Then we win it in OT! What a dramatic WIN! Amazing :thumb:

Notes

What's up with the refereeing in this tournament??

First when we had our net empty, a lines (person?) got in the way of our D and almost enabled a goal to be scored! Thank God for the post!! The game could have been over right there.

The Slashing penalty against the Americans? Talk about lame. I know that player was already warned about that infraction but what a time to get a penalty!!

At what time did tackling a player from behind on a breakaway become a Cross Checking Penalty? Why a British Ref? They don't even have a team and from I can gather not much of organized hockey in the UK.

I reckon if they let professional athletes participate, its time to allow professional referees get involved too.

A huge way to send off Hayley Wickenheiser. Arguably the best female hockey player ever. Incredibly emotional game, embodied everything that I believe the Olympics is about. Shannon Szabados continues to be an unreal goaltender.

I remember watching Hayley Wickenheiser and Cammy Granato when I was a young(er) girl and it played a huge part in my love of the sport now.

I watched a lot of the women's hockey and was disappointed with the linesman more than the referee. I thought the linesladies did a poor job of getting out of the way of the puck, I didn't see them jump over the puck like you see during NHL games. I didn't see them grab the boards and lift themselves up to stay out of play with the puck Then in the gold medal game a linesman nearly caused an issue that would have allowed a empty net goal.
I know I'm going to catch heat for saying this but in my opinion the referee should be a man. I felt the woman referee was out of position to make calls where a man may have been able to keep up with the speed of the game better. Just my thoughts.
As far as the game goes, congratulations to Team Canada on the win and congratulations to the US team also. There were no losers on the ice in my opinion. True the US lost the game in a heartbreaking way but there was a bit of puck luck that worked out nicely for team Canada. Banking a goal in off a defenseman and hitting the post on the empty net opportunity was damn lucky which could have made a difference in the game.
I think the two teams involved in the gold medal game are great for one another, they make each other strive for excellence and better teams. It's always exciting to see two top caliber teams go at it, never a dull moment. Now it will be interesting to see which country's NHL All Star Mens team gets into the gold medal round. It always seems to come down to the North American rivalry, best in olympic hockey. Reminds me of watching the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks going at it, it's always a battle

Don't forget the ladies curling team and Kaillie Humphries and Monika Platek who got this great ladies day started for Canada !!! Now lets hope for a great game tomorrow from the men's team !!
I second that!
Curling was big in both my elementary and high schools, so I'm always rooting for them aha!

Great win for the girls today, and I agree with Peyton in the fact that it was a game that truly embodied what the Olympics are about.

Go Canada Go!!

Hayley has always been consistently at the top and IMHO she may have slowed down a bit but could still contribute in four years time. It's weird when you hear her name attached to "two decades"! Talk about a long great career!

She announced her retirement today to become and IOC commissioner and I teared up like a baby. She had even mentored some of the super young girls on the National team back when she was younger. That's crazy!

I've got an English friend who plays hockey, and from what he tells me it sounds like there's not much hockey in the UK at all - organized or not. He's not exactly from a small town, and he's told me that he had to drive about 4 hours to get to any rinks where hockey might be played.

Great game! Lots of skill. I felt very sorry for the Americans, really felt their loss, and some of the penalties seemed silly. @badboy, yes, the slashing penalty was ridiculous. slashing? and the cross check? seriously? I thought she was skating so hard to over take that she fell and bumped into the Canadian player....and that moment the Canadian player was seen to have pushed the American player over beside the goal, which sort of looked accidental, in another screen you see an American player actually pushing over a Canadian player, in the left. Very odd calls.
I am very happy Canada won. what a thrill! Still, I wish they had won with equal players on the ice. That last bit of overtime was some of the most exciting hockey I've seen in a while.

England is most famous and most developed in soccer. FIFA is what they want.

Its funny,
I was funny I was watching the game and a guy I know from Texas kept texting me, sending me a team U.S.A. jersy shit like that,
(he just told me they were a dry town up until two years ago, then they when wet, because kids kept driving into Dallus to get drunk and ending up drinking and driving and dieing on the road.,, I never asked him if they have escorts down there, they only have beer for two years now.)

But any way he kept talking shit, until we tied it up, then he went silent.
Thanks to the Canadian girls for shutting up the dam americans one guy just outside of Dallus in particular.

I couldn't stop laughing watching the girls cry, I think I sent this guy a screen shot of their goalie with a big pout on and tears. Hillarious.

asshole media shouldn't even be allowed on the ice!!
