Canada Safeway in the Lower Mainland just became "a terrible example" of why corporate networks must be secure and employees that try to bypass that security must be terminated.
A program that intercepts and collects Safeway customers PIN and card information was inserted some weeks ago onto Safeway's network.
Sorry to say but this is totally unrelated to the thread about corporate networks.
The Safeway debit card issue is one of the physical security of the PINPADS. What the thieves are doing is replacing the pinpads with one that looks exactly the same and works however it has some added features in it that help the bad guys collect the information they desire.
If the pinpads were secured in a way that would make this swap impossible our cards would be safer. In the meantime use your credit cards never a debit.
