I am seriously thinking of getting a laptop computer. I am leaning towards getting an Apple IBook.
I saw a couple of good deals on craigslist.

Anyway, I already have a desktop at home which is Windows (XP).
I use Telus ADSL with a D-Link Modem.

Is it at all possible to get a iBook with wireless Interent that I can use with my existing Telus ADSL service. I do not want to start another internet account. Why pay for two.

Or should I get a Windows Operated Laptop?

Any other ideas. Thanks for the help.

wireless router...

Hi,

All laptops are now equipped with wireless, Ibooks included. So no worries there.
You will however need a wireless router to be able to connect your laptop to you current ADSL account.

All you need to do is buy a cheap wireless router and plug it to your ADSL modem and you will be able to go online wirelessly on a laptop.

Hope this helps. If you need more info just PM me.

Correct - you do not need another internet account. A simple $50 wireless router will let any computer within 300 feet have internet access via your router (unless you WEP encode it). Any new laptop nowadays have built-in wireless.

One thing to consider though - while the Apple iBook is one nice machine, it depends on what you need your laptop for. If it is just for surfing and MS Office applications, Apple iBooks is a bit overkill (it is not cheap!). But if you are doing lots of multi-media and multi-applications iBooks are good for the job. Shop around and you'll see you can get a pretty damn powerful PC notebook for $2000.

Agreed on everything but the last. You can now get a very nicely loaded Windows notebook for as little as $800. What makes a notebook expensive? Usually weight and battery life. If those aren't a great concern for you, then you can definitely pick up a VERY nice system for around $1000 to $1300. Ibooks start at $1399 last time I looked.

Todays mac (Intel chip) laptops are known as MacBooks (not iBooks). iBooks were from the previous and now discontinued Powerchip genre. I recommend you consider a Macbook and not an iBook.

Agreed Randy. I love my Powerbook, but it's not for everyone. If your coming straight from the PC world and get a Powerbook/Ibook you won't be able to use the back log of PC programs. (If you can find one new, you will want to have some type of warranty) You will need software built for the PowerPC chips of old.

The new MacBooks are great, and you can run both Mac OSX and Windows XP / Vista applications on the Intel based MacBooks.

Plus when Leopard is released (Apple's next gen OS) it will be even better.

And the ladies love the Macs, not PC's.

For those looking for a Windows based notebook, the lowest retail loss leader sale prices of the year are typically during the last week of August / first week of September. That's because the competition is the hottest then as so many are sold for back to school / university, etc.

It happens every year. Just watch!
