I love my normal commute of walking down to the kitchen, grabbing something healthy to eat, making a latte and then down to my office.

Lately I have had to be at client's offices early so I had to join the madness on our local roads and highways.

Why is it every dickhead behind me feels the need to tailgate so closely I cannot even see their head lights? I cannot go faster because the traffic is heavy and I sure as hell won't move over for any tailgater!

By the way, to the driver of the Black Volvo X Country - I hope you enjoy wearing your coffee on your shirt after I jammed on the brakes on you this morning. It serves you right for being a dangerous driver!

Rant over

The Europeans, Germans more specifically, have the right culture - if you're not passing someone, get the hell out of the left lane. It's also the law here but unfortunately very few seem to be taught it or practice it. It doesn't matter if there is a line of cars in front of you in the left lane or not, get the heck out of it..... if you don't practice this and start taunting the people behind you with tapping on the brakes or worse, don't be caught off guard when they finally go around you, cut in front real close and jam on their brakes.... (no, I don't drive a Volvo, wouldn't be caught dead in one)

just take the mexican approach... never use your rear view mirror! just pay very close attention to what is happening in front of you and assume everybody behind you is doing the same thing :D

When people follow me too close at high speed, I keep tapping the brake pedal until they clue in. If I have to resort to jamming on the brakes, so be it. :thumb:
Somebody might take offense to that (if you are on the left lane and refuse to budge) and given the chance will jam the brakes once they get ahead of you. Give you a taste of your own medicine, so to speak.

I did the same when I had a car. How about all the people texting and driving!,!? Or eating and driving?

I only do it to tailgaters.. I was not a tailgater so no way I get a dose of my own medicine.

If you are hogging the left lane, then being tailgated is par for the course...

Chef- you think everyone should stay in the rigt lane even in rush hour bumper to bumper traffic? I get the left lane passing thing but that only works when it's not congested, no?
I guess I was thinking about my own commute Vanesssa, mostly highway driving and the idiots going slower than the speed limit while in the left lane really screw things up. Agreed that on a more standard city street it doesn't really apply.

I got a huge laugh and was disgusted when there were some driving advertisements some time ago (last year?) about saving gas and how you should barely touch the gas pedal when starting from a red light, etc. Couldn't understand how it's going to save gas and emissions overall doing that - huge gaps between cars and you only get a couple of cars through the light! It leaves an extra half dozen cars idling and going nowhere at the light, not going to cut down on emissions that way

The thing about driving in the fast lane is that it is "customary". Is that the right word? It is not universal and they certainly do not tell you that "the left lane is the fast lane" in Drivers Ed. But yes. Driving slow in the fast lane should be a punishable offense. Punishable by stoning..,..in the town square..... :D

Tapping the brake pedal, will only make you look like your from Alberta .... they are probably the worst drivers in Canada... OH and that thing on the left side of the steering column/ wheel , that's what used when your turning ....

Living up country now , almost refuse to go the the lower mainland...

That's my 2 cents :)

If they are breaking the law and putting me in danger by following too close, I'd rather draw their attention to it and make them back off, than let them continue. I don't do it to be a jerk, it's defensive driving. I never hog the left lane, I'm a conscientious driver.
If you do it to the wrong person, you might get some retribution. Happened to me more than once...

HAHA I cannot believe you said that. Here is a story about Road Rage that truly happened to me.

It was raining. I was on the Island driving down the "new" highway heading south from Parksville to Nanaimo. It was dark. It was piss pouring rain. I was on a highway where deer were common and I was paying attention to the road in front of me.

Suddenly, through the rain, I can see lights rapidly approaching until buddy is right on my ass. Did I mention it was pouring rain???

I shoulder check and someone is coming quickly down the right hand lane and I know that I cannot switch lanes in time in this weather. Buddy in the pick up truck is right behind me honking his horn AND flashing his lights.
I wait for the car in the right lane to pass and I switched lanes.

Well now that d*ckhead has passed me I feel like giving him a taste of his own medicine and play a game. So I flip my high beams on and just cruise like 20-30 feet behind him. Then he starts slowing down and before I realize it this dude in the pick up truck is STOPPING HIS CAR. ON THE HWY, IN THE FAST LANE!!! I could not lock my door and find my phone fast enough. I look in the rearview mirror. The driver behind me has his hazard lights on. Mr. Pickup truck gets out of his vehicle and starts yelling and swearing at me ON THE HWY, IN THE FAST LANE. Then he gets back into his vehicle and drove off.

I never played any "games" in the car again. I learned my lesson that night.

Check your closet..:)
I love driving in Montreal. Every driver are all dickheads equally.
Most highways have 3 lane.

Lane 1...I know where I am going.
Lane 2...I maybe know where I am going so MOVE
Lane 3... Get the F^%$ out of my way and I know where I am going.

Does anyone know why a lot of Chinese drivers leave a full car length between them and the car ahead when they're at a stop light? Are they being taught that? It really backs up traffic more than it should, isn't any safer, and fucks up anyone trying to get into a turning lane.

Then I take out my camera and make it very obvious that I'm taking pics of the vehicle, the plate, and the occupants in the vehicle. Works like a charm. :)
Kinda sounds like a good way to get your drivers side window smashed in as well as having your phone smashed:confused: Not worth trying a road ragers patience. I've seen some crazy people on the road, just think of the 71 year old ex cop that shot & killed the guy in a movie theatre in Florida. All because he was texting a message to his three year old daughter. I'm telling you, if you want to see an instant psycho, drive slow in the passing lane.

It's actually taught and is supposedly safer; in case the driver behind rear-ends you, there is a higher chance you will not be pushed onto the car in front of you. You also have a safe distance to move to (escape route) if the car behind you can't stop for some reason.

All lanes were full. It didn't matter if I was in the fast lane or the right lane it was bumper to bumper. I was not hogging the lane and given the chance I would have been cruising at 120 but the speed was a gruesome 60 k max.

I took offence at being tailgated too fucking close. I gave the Volvo driver plenty of warning of what was coming up "soon" and he chose to get closer to try to force me out of the fast lane. I stomped on the brake just as he was taking a big swig of coffee.

I have been in that situation, with this disturbed twit that almost hit a girl crossing main and I caught up to him at lights and windows were down and I just said You should slow down and take it easy and he flipped his lid and cut me off and pinned me in turning lane on meridian and came straight for my truck, I was shaking but got my phone cam and took pic of his car and of him because my windows were down and his heads in my truck screaming at me and then he punched my windshield a few times.
He backed off when he saw me taking pics of him, but the worst part of it all is I was surrounded by cars in 3 lanes stopped at a light when he did this to me and Everyone might as well of had a Big Bowl of Popcorn!!
They didn`t blink or think of getting out and helping me, and they were all men sitting in their cars!!

I`m from the prairies and I tell you if this happen anywhere out in the Flatlands, that boys face would`ve been flatter!!

I`ve had a few incidences and they`ve been aggressive males, and no one does anything in this city to stand up for a girl in those situations. People would rather stare and do nothing.

These boys are lucky I just didn`t 4x4 their asses to the pavement, they wouldn`t think twice of acting that way if I had a man in my truck, different story!

Threw me in shock after and cried the whole time I was at yoga, probably the best place I could`ve been going to when it all happened!

It`s one thing to have crazy people who don`t know how to get behind a vehicle and drive it like a tank, let alone throw bat shit crazy road rage in the pot and you have yourselves What I call A Vancouver Special!! LOL

I drive professionally for a living everyday on our Lower Mainland roads, and first of all....you folks who love to trundle along in the left lane doing the speed limit....for your safety, get over to the right hand lane. You're not a traffic cop, and you're impeding traffic creating more of a problem and being a safety hazard as people get pissed off, have to pass you on the right...especially if you're tapping your brakes, not paying attention to what's going on beyond your immediate game your playing. Slower traffic keep right. Signs all over the freeway saying so.

I see it all the time, as i drive a truck, usually in the right lane, but I do pull out to pass on the left and also encounter the clueless, or someone playing games with traffic going slower than everyone else in the passing left lane....and when I eventually pull into the right lane to pass your slow ass, why the fuck do you suddenly speed up? Are you trying to cause an accident? Trying to piss people off?

People of Perb. Easy on the tailgating, put down the fucking phone...I can tell always when someone is fucking around with their phone in their lap trying to be sneaky, but since you're looking down and away from what's happening in front and around you, while the car is still in motion...drifting over lines, going too slow, jerky correction steering, not noticing that the light turned red and still continues through the intersection...driving peeves? More to come, I'm sure.

But People...don't fuck around on the freeway, rush hr or not. If you can't do what the flow of traffic is doing in the left lane, notice that someone is right behind you...fuck your pride, or what you think that you're in the right doing the speed limit or even just cruising just 10 kn over the limit...get over to the right, you're not a cop, traffic warden or any other sort of traffic authority. Not your job and it's dangerous. Don't taligate, don't cut infront of larger trucks and brake suddenly for the Costco parking lot. Don't get a righteous attitude, use your signals!!!!!! Ugh, I could go on and on.
