The game hadn't been over for ten seconds before hockey's biggest shill, Ron MacLean, was assuring everyone that the preliminary round doesn't mean anything. Well, maybe if your team is being outcoached and outplayed, the preliminary round actually DOES mean something. There's going to be a lot of second guessing about not having a couple of gamebreakers like Eric Staal and Sidney Crosby in the lineup if they come home with something less than gold. But boy, it sure is great watching Kris Draper backcheck.

All in all.... a very poor performance....Confidence level has to be shaken now.....for sure!!

The structure of the tourney is such that we are currently in third place in our "pool", and the top four from each pool go to the medal round.

If you're in the medal round, you've got a shot at any placing. Gold, or number eight!

No the demands of the Canadian team is to get a medal be it gold, silver or bronze. However seeing the "lesser" countries doing well actually increases my interest. I've seen far more hockey in the last week than I have this NHL season.
