You have to realize that the Europeans were searching for the new continent like the Americans and Russians were trying to put someone on the moon in the late 1960's.
Face it, eventually the native North Americans would have been colonized by someone at sometime. It was a done deal over 600 years ago. The First Nations have never really solved how to work within the established North American Governments/States/Provinces/Districts and Municipalities.
Do people say now they won't deal with Germans or Japanese because of WWII? Vietnam because of the war in the 1960's - 1970's? No, now we are all very good allies and trading partners.

FACT - Actually it wasn't Columbus at all. The Norse explorers were already here a few hundred years before Columbus.
