Cold season! - What are your best home remedies?

We are upon the horrible winter cold/flu season! What are some of your best home remedies?
I have a really bad earache, I went and got some Polysporin Ear/Eye drops - That are not working. I have been googling some home remedies, has anyone ever tried putting olive oil in your ear for pain??
What are some things that work best for earaches? ​

I am in health care. There are drops called Auralgan which contain benzocaine which will take the pain away. Get some Advil Sinus also. The ibuprofen in there will act as an anti-inflammatory to reduce the swelling and pain. The pseudoephedrine in there will open up your ear canals if they are blocked by congestion. Olive oil will only soften any wax that might be in there. If it is non-sterile it might cause a worsening of infection.

Had a wicked headache/earache earlier this week. Took a couple of Tylenol and got plenty of bed rest (like under the covers after supper and on through to dawn). Hot chicken soup (not that it does anything, but it sure is tasty!)

I am a big fan of NeoCitron. Whenever I feel anything coming on, I grab a hot cup of water and stir. I haven't had a cold/flu in forever. I know it's not exactly a home remedy, but it works miracles for me!

sorry to hear about your earache, they can be pretty bad

when i was a kid my mother used to put a dab of vicks vaporub on a pinch of cotton batting and stick it in the affected ear vaporub end in first - by morning the earache was gone... worked every time. so i did it with my kids... also worked every time

I find a Chiropractic adjustment can help clear my ear/sinus infections. Haven't had one or a cold/flu in years.

I’ve had two cold/flu free winters in my life.

#1 Eating Garlic pretty much everyday in some form or another.

#2. Doing Tai Chi at least twice a week for 1 hour. Not that shit in the park, find an old Chinese dude that teaches out of his garage, off the books.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I think I'm just going to go to the doctor.. I think my ear is either infected or I have a bad sinus infection.
I've been drinking lots of hot water with honey and a cinnamon stick in it.
But it's just getting worse!

Could be strep throat, that has ear infection like symptoms too.

My throat isn't really sore.. just my ear.. I have a bad headache and the bridge of my nose is swollen and feels numb to the touch

Might want to have the doctor check it anyways, I went in with a painful ear and she prescribed ear antibiotics and did a throat swab which ended up being strep throat.

Yes, drink it. Honey is good for the throat and the apple cider vinegar is supposed to kill stuff. I don't know how it works, but 13 Ukranian grannies can't be wrong!
