Just learned on the news that Cloutier will undergo knee surgery for
an ACL, they expect him to be gone for four months!

Now, I hate to see anybody injured and have to undergo
surgery of any kind, but................

No Cloutier for four months?!...........WOO HOO !!

Actually this kinda screws up things... pretty difficult to trade him away in a package deal when he's hurt.

I don't think Auld is the guy to carry us through the playoffs. We may have to pull the trigger on sending Jovo away for a goalie. Or possibly pick up Lalime or Thibault...

I don't think Auld is the guy to carry us through the playoffs. We may have to pull the trigger on sending Jovo away for a goalie. Or possibly pick up Lalime or Thibault...

It will be difficult even in the future when he is healthy just knowing what
underlying injuries he has had it will make any prospective "buyers" a bit
leary I would think.
Making it even more difficult to get anything for him if there is a trade.

As for Auld I kinda agree with you man, I like his style of play but does he
have the moxxy to carry us through a playoff season, only time will tell.

Auld has been great with the Moose and pretty darn good with the 'Nucks. It's like real life, if you give the guy the authority and the responsibility of being your #1 puck stopper, then I believe he will rise to the challenge.

The puck is the same size in the AHL as the NHL, isn't it?

luongo is too pricey now... he turned down 25 million over 5 years, what a fool. i don't see any team paying that kind of money for a goalie, most get so hot and cold , may be good this year but a red light next year. i think auld is doing a great job considering he is and will be a backup for a few more years. but this is going to prove interesting and noonis is going to have to pull the trigger very soon on a trade deal. i think bert is going to be involved forsure and jovo. may just be luongo too??? he wants to get to a good team that stands a chance of being a contender.

he probably turned it down so he could be traded ... no team could afford that salary so he would be stuck there ... and if he signs a low ball contract to be traded he better have an iron-clad MUST TRADE clause in it!

the only team that would take Bert these days is the Rangers or maybe the Islanders ... and who would you get in return? a lot of ex-nuck rejects.

Jovo is the most likely to be traded for a goalie ...

I say run with Auld...he certainly can't do any worse than Cloutier has done in the playoffs!!

True, but the shooters are quite a bit different.

Publically Nonis is saying that he's not going to panic because they have faith in Auld and he's proven he can win at this level... what about a backup? I know that Maxim Ouellette (Sp?) was a highly touted junior, but he has only 8 games of NHL experience.

Cause you could get them without having to give much back and keep the core of the team intact. If you think that Lalime is bad, do a check on his stats... far better than Cloutier. The only time his stats are bad is this year... his first year on a really bad Blues team. And his playoff stats in 41 games played is superb as well.

I think any serious talk of what trade could or could not happen is a little premature... Wait until after the owners meeting this weekend (they'll be discussing sal. cap among other things) and then we will have a better idea as to what trade may or may not happen.

Besides, the Knuckleheads are fifth overall in the league (with Auld being the #1 for most of the season) I wouldn't expect any major trades to go down anytime soon.

Forgetting the trade situation it is a personal tragedy for Cloutier. He has always been a frail boy and this injury could effectively end his career with his history of injuries and his big contract.
Auld is a big guy and can't play every night. He was benched a number of times with the Moose because he has long stretches where he couldn't stop a beach ball. As the season progresses the pressure will start to get to him as the Canucks get more injuries and losses start to add up.

That may very well be true but I believe now is not the time to panic and make a hasty decision that could effect the team as a whole.
