jose feliciano
i've gotta tell my jose feliciano story here. back in the 60's there was a downstairs after hours jazz joint on seymour that i was led to in a state of extreme drunkeness by some disreputable mates of mine... bring your own bottle type of place. we got there around 3am - one of the dudes seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about these things and he said there was this 'incredible' musician showing up there to jam after his performance at the cave, if i remember correctly
so around then this guy showed up who looked more like the janitor, except he was wearing dark glasses and carrying a white cane and a guitar and i seem to remember a german shepherd. he sat down and said, 'hi, i am jose feliciano' and launched into a continuous set of songs that lasted until about 8am ($5 cover charge). then he got up, thanked the audience and left - a man of few words!
and that was my introduction to live jazz and to feliciano
i did a bit of digging and i think it was the belmont cabaret in the basement of what is now the hotel dakota on nelson at seymour :thumb:
