Claire Foy from "The Crown" paid less than the Prince Philip Character. WTF?

I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard the Netflix series "The Crown" actually paid their lead character, Claire Foy LESS than the Philip Character Matt Smith. Producers of the series said it was based upon Smith playing in the Dr Who series and was more well known than Foy when she was cast as the Queen.

I have been binge watching The Crown's seasons and IMO it's one of the best cast, best written and produced series on TV whether streamed or via Cable.

Claire Foy carried the load of the acting in this series. Whether it was her dialogue, her cooly putting Prime Minister's in their place or her "looks". The looks without saying anything were huge. One can only imagine being stared down by the Queen in dead silence. Matt Smith on the other hand seemed quite Wooden to me. Perhaps that is good research on the real Prince Philip ?

Unfortunately, Foy won't be back for Season 3 to recoup what IMO she is owed for her performances. Netflix production is going to an older looking monarch. Olivia Coleman will have the role for the next season(s).

I imagine Sean Bean was paid more than whomever played Robert Baratheon or any of the Lannisters in Game of Thrones' first season, for the same reason as with The Crown. More fame =more money, in acting; it's like tenure, for example. I don't suggest one buy into this notion that she was paid less because of her gender, rather, it appears to be more media pandering to SJW frenzy.

It's getting stupid. The world is going to hell. I believe in pay equity but to raise this sort of shite is just click bait

I'm thinking the lead role, regardless of gender but based upon the volume of work should rule when signing the cast.

I'd never looked up 'Philip's' real name until today. I suppose he had market value before Season 1 and would guess that Claire Foy has surpassed him now.

It's a breakout role for her and she's set to do well in the future. Looking at her portfolio though, I'm not surprised she was paid less.

Matt Smith, on the other hand, is HUGE in the UK. Doctor Who is one of the leading BBC productions in the sci fi universe - an equivalent would be Star Trek in the US.

Just imagine contract negotiations at the beginning of the series.

Female co-star - OK, but not stellar portfolio.

Male co-star - superstar veteran.

I wouldnt be holding any tag days for Claire Foy. She has made her name and her acting chops known through this series and will be well rewarded for it in the future. Lots of big paydays are in the cards for her. Great performance..far superior to her better paid costar.

It is sort of like hockey. Who gets paid more, the established star or the guy who was just drafted? Think of it in those terms and it should be obvious why those two actors got paid the way they were.
