City to look into unliscensed escort agencies

"Girls and women are being trafficked into forced prostitution inside Canada," Diane Redsky, the project director of the national task force on trafficking of women and girls in Canada, told the protection and community services committee this morning.

Redsky and Coun. Paula Havixbeck told the committee city hall needs to take steps to deal with the issue.

"Aboriginal women and girls are the ones largely targeted," in Winnipeg by the modern-day sex slave traders, Redsky said.

The city licenses escort agencies but the vast majority of these operators do so without a license, through the anonymity of the Internet.

Redsky said an online search found there are upwards of 400 illegal escort agencies operating in Winnipeg, adding many of them force girls as young as 13 to work for them.

In addition to illegal escort agencies, Redsky said strip clubs and rub parlors also are involved the trafficking of young women and girls.

Not sure if this woman is just clueless or if she makes more money spouting bullshit but she's got councillors and police listening to her. Not denying that it exists but talk about looking in the wrong places

If LE wants too they will scoop up both SP's and johns... Charges may not stick....but they will still drag you in...etc
Makes for an awkward situation at the least when they show up at your door....
If you thought it was bad when a SP says hello in public...how will you explain it to friends/family/so when cops show up at your door....whether they charge you or not....it's a tactic they use....and right or wrong....they do what they want....a wording technicality is the least of their cares.

They're just looking into it. Seems like there's four months for them to try and figure out how to monitor the agencies if they can at all.

I stay away from MP's because THEY DO GET RAIDED. Why take the chance when you get everything you need from an indie SP and you never have to worry about a knock on the door (either because you are at 60 min mark or cause the cops have shown up!)

WPS is actually under instruction from the Crown not to arrest or charge anyone with prostitution related offences unless it involves underage minors. They just haven't publicized it like other jurisdictions. The top brass has decided not to publicize it as they feel the perceived threat of arrest and embarrassment helps keep a lid on things. That's not to say they won't stop you if your cruising the low track or try and scare you if your caught in an MP but other than asking a few questions and checking your ID they are not doing anything more until the Feds get the new laws in place. And they won't be visiting anyone at home or calling your spouse either.
