If you actually lump driving around in car or going to a bar in Hicksville wearing a tutu, as being as dangerous as going to war in Iraq, then you are not as smart as I thought you were. Yes I know shit happens, but protecting your kids from war is not the same as letting them drive around downtown.shapeshifter said:And how would you be "damn sure they would be safe" staying home?
I have seen several reports of soldiers who came home from Vietnam or Iraq or wherever after serving 1,2,3 tours of duty only to be killed a week after they return home in some dumb accident or brawl at a bar.

But the fact is he was an adult and he made a decision.... he was willing to go to Iraq knowing damn well that it's a dangerous place and he could get killed.
And I commend him for that. I have several friends in the navy that have gone over. I wish I had had the balls to be in the military 16 years ago when I almost enlisted. Makes me sad now that I have never given back to my country in that way.
Still all mothers will worry about them, probably lots may even try to talk themout of going. And, some Mothers (Maybe psychotic ones) will go to dangerous extremes to keep their children alive.
I think we both agree that shooting someone in the foot or running over them with the car to keep them out of Iraq is pretty extreme. Does not mean it has not happened, or that it will not happen again. Makes me wonder how often it actually happens. Cuz you can guarantee it does. I work with the elderly and some of them are veterans. Ocasionally they tell stories about the war and once or twice I have been told stuff like: "This guy or that guy never went over to England" That he was yelllow. That kind of thing.
