Chucking coins at strippers?

I'm in Edmonton for awhile, and had the misfortune of visiting a local strip club there called Diamonds. They've got this weird thing going on where a girl onstage will stick a loonie onto her skin somewhere near her snatch, then guys chuck loonies at the 'target' so they can win a poster or something.

I'm no strip club expert, but I've never seen anything like this before. Is this a local thing, or does it happen elsewhere?

Seen it every time I've been in a strip bar in Calgary (French Maid and its sister club). This seems to be unique to Alberta as I've never seen it anyplace else.

It is a practice that I would be happy to see disappear. Also, some guys seem to delight in throwing the coins a lot harder than they have to and I can't help but think that it must sting. I'm surprised it's survived as long as it has.

I've seen it in Calgary as well.
I remember being repulsed the first time I saw it.
I agree it's degrading to the women as well as the doofuses who toss away 10 or 12 loonies to win a one dollar mini-poster.
To add to the cheesiness of it all, the guy in the booth is egging the audience on in his best DJ voice.
Then at the end, a lot of the girls have a magnet on a chain that they use to pick up all the coins that were thrown at their snatch.
Go figure.

Think I'm going to take my loonie collection to Calgary. I don't think it degrades the women, but if she's a bad dancer, you can always aim for her head. Woot.

Too far from Edmonton MP's now
Yes, dumbest way to tip a dancer that I ever saw. I often just handed the girls in Alberta a five or ten, and 100% of the time they were grateful and 90% of the time they came to personally thank me after their show. I never threw a damn coin. Benefit - In three years in Alberta, I landed 6 different strippers for fun outside of the clubs.

Amazing what a little respect and some money given tastefully can accomplish. Good for you.

On the other hand, you're not American are you? If so, I hate to break it to you but we don't use decimals in our bank notes in Canada. Those were NOT 5.0 and 10.0 dollar bills you gave them but 50 and 100 dollar bills. Maybe that explains their appreciation after the show.

Oh yes - about those 6 strippers. You didn't per chance give them 100.0 dollar bills did you? :D :D :D

THEY DO IT IN B.C. TOO!

This insulting practise of throwing loonies and now toonies at the poonani of the peeler...goes on in B.C. too! While dancing in Fort St. John, I was "tipped" during every show...I was told not to kick at the customers or I would be fired...so I walked from the gig...in 30 below weather! Not classy! felt totally degraded...and you need to throw ALOT of loonies for an encore from me! LOL

Alberta's strip clubs took a shit dive when they changed the laws for the 88 Winter Olympics.

It's too degrading to actually talk to the girls, but its okay to throw metal shards at them.

Nice thinking asshats.

But don't forget that people in Fort St. John are closer to the major cities of Alberta than the ones in BC, so they'll adapt Alberta's bad habits (there's even a movement for that area to leave BC and join Alberta).

I always assumed that the laws were changed because Audrey Jensen's crusade against the evil adult industry found some sympathetic ears of the government at the time. And because some fucktard sued the government after a peeler made him cum his tightie-whities.

because some fucktard sued
Kinda like out in Maple Ridge, that fucktard leaned in way to close on gyno row, than whined when he got hoofed in the head. She's swinging around and around on a pole, legs extended, WTF did you think was going to happen when you stuck your head out?

How typical is this, those who don't want to tip a dancer label this act as degrading to women! From a bunch who pay them for their company! After all she is allready buck ass naked up there on stage, why do you wanna go tipping her for her effort right? She must make atleast 60 big ones to do the 20 minute show and have every last drooling dude watching her every move. Then theres the dancers who think it is rude to throw coins for posters etc, for whatever reason (hot coins, hard throwers, distraction from her show)!! She would rather spend 4 songs in the nude rolling around on her blanket trying to make eye contact with a possible private show recipient, spreading her legs for all the room to see without a tip in sight right? That sounds much better than inviting the boys who are most enthusiastic to compete for a poster with their loonies and toonies! Tell us the same thing when you are done cleaning up your 150 in tips with a huge magnet like the girls in Alberta. Some girls wouldn't dance if there were no tips. I think some of us forgot for a second that tipping is praise for good service or in this case good entertainment and I can assure you that there is no degredation intended by this tradition. I think it is a good excuse for dudes who are cheap to not tip and thats hurting.

Personally I can't fucking stand the whole coin throwing thing.....I think it degrades the lady and the guy

I wholeheartedly agree however, I'd like to toss this one out and then duck for cover. ;-)

Is it not degrading for the dancer to include a gynecological exhibition as part of her set and call it 'dancing' or 'art'?

I still think that the loonie toss is retarded with absolutely no entertainment value whatsoever. Throwing loonies at a girl is too akin to throwing peanuts at the monkeys in the zoo. I'd much rather watch the girl actually dance or roll out on the blanket or whatever - I mean, I'm sorry for showing up to be sexually stimulated or entertained instead of giving you money (I'm already paying a cover charge and for overpriced drinks). Go sell your swag after the show.

Well, if you get out of this frozen wasteland and head to thiland you wont believe what is available. One of the event in thi strip bars is catching a ping pong ball between the pussy lips, when it is tossed twords the girls.

I dont know what is the prize? but it is fucking hilarious.
