It just amazing how the internet and our smart phones are changing everything about how we use are tv.
Yor no longer are a slave to the cable TV net works.. we can watch what we want when we want to..As long as you can connect or down load from the internet..

And if you have Wifi. .then chromecast is the best ..You can use your smart phone to view any thing that you can access with your phone .you can link it to your TV with the wireless Wifi and beamed right from your phone.. And your phone is your TV controller too turn on off .. change chanel ... net flix. .you tube...porn... pics off Google + cloud or even apple cloud..and dozens of other online networks....
I just got one .used it briefly and just love the potential .
Yes you need wireless wifi..but then your phone can be that hot spot .too.

Maybe I'm confused... but isn't WiFi on a phone free? When I'm at home and I use my phone to connect to my WiFi, I don't get charged for that (other than what I'm already paying my internet service provider).

I thought about Chromecast but I went with Apple TV. It's was easier to interface with my AMP.

I plugged my Chromecast directly to my Denon AV receiver instead of the TV. Casting auto switches to Chromecast. Audio goes thru AV system rather than crappy TV.

I think what they are saying is they use the cellular data to provide a WiFi hotspot for the Chrome HDMI Dongle.

The normal operation would call for your router to provide the same 2.4 GHz WiFi signal as your computer, tablet or smartphone.

I have a love hate relationship with my Apple TV so I might check these things out.

Yes the wifi is free if you get it wireless from your home I ter net .other then pay your normal bill
And when you do it off your date pack it is expensive ..
Just say you can but would not do it for long..
Yes could cast through a tablet or computer too.. phone is just so easy

If that's what you want to watch, you should probably stick with your TV provider. There would be no point in switching. All of that stuff would be available but hard to track down.

Cable cutting is more for people who prefer movies or the kind of tv shows that you can get on Netflix.

I had a snoop behind my older Plasma TV last night and I've run out of HDMI ports. I'd have to get a HDMI switch box too if I was going to try this thing out.

On Apple TV there is a lot of that content. Problem is a lot of of it is by subscription basis. I looked at the ones that interested me and it just wasn't worth it in the end. Besides, I didn't have the option of at least looking at it first to see if it was something I would want to pay for since a lot of content is free on the internet.

I'm pretty much the same boat. I hardly look at Canadian News broadcasting anymore. So subjective, so pandering to their supporters etc.

I'll watch BBC World News etc if I want to follow a major incident.

I have chromecast also, I use it on a tv thats not "smart" to make it smart so to speak. works great, can't complain at all. Try downloading "showbox" to your phone or tablet all of the latest tv shows and movies - it works great with android, not sure about apple (not a big fan of apple).

I had Chrome cast working great when wifi was telus, then switched to Shaw, and damned if I can get the two to sync using new wifi. Back to L Drugs for help I guess.

I plug everything into my Sony receiver. There are at least seven or eight inputs. Then one HDMI from receiver to TV.

Sony receiver and Bluray player both have Wifi and both them and my TV can be controlled with the Sony reveiver's remote.
