If you have 20 minutes to a half hour to kill, you should check out this girl's website. Its not funny or sexy, but its very interesting to revisit the site of one of the world's worst disasters of recent times: Chernobyl. This girl rides her motorcycle through the dead zone and her website reads like a diary or personal commentary. I found it fascinating.

Interesting read for sure. I dunno if I'd have the guts to do that.

Thanks Venn that was really interesting...I book marked it for my dad to look at. The Kindergarden photos really struck me....how soon people forget the devistations of the past....
Those last pics of the kindergarten really affected me too, V-L. It was so sad to see their little shoes sitting on the windowsill as if the kids were just taking a nap. Imagine an entire city dying in the space of a day.

The other thing that hit me hard was her decription of the people who were trying to promote 2 hour tours .. but people couldn't take any more then 15 minutes of the "absolute silence." Imagine the feeling of walking through downtown Vancouver in the middle of the afternoon and not a sound ... not a soul around ... all the empty shops left just as they were when the people were evacuated. How eerie would that be!

Certainly makes you think. One other sad and frankly scary thing is that the original covering (carcofigus sp?) over the destroyed reactor is breaking down and there is still a large mass of material under it that could apparently still go critical under the right conditions, no money or will to cleanup or fix it ...
