Can somebody provide a list of maybe the top 3 golf courses in Vancouver?

Nothing more than 30 - 45 minutes outside of downtown.
It also seems like some of the better courses are located quite a distance from downtown.
I found alot of courses but it is very hard to judge the quality of a course from a website.

Northview/Surrey/Site of Air Canada Greater Vancouver Open
36 holes. Go for the ridge as this is the track the Pro's played. Canal is links style

Westwood Plateau/Coquitlam/Get a cart. Use the GPS for club selection and course management. Great view from some holes of lower mainland.

Seymour/Nt Vancouver/yeah private and only open to public on some days

Northlands/Nt Vancouver/I haven't played it but everyone I talked to likes the track

Riverway/Burnaby/Links style and depending on white/blue/black tees, the course plays much differently. This is my favourite because I get to use every club in my bag.

Mayfair Lakes/Richmond. Lots of water. Something like 14 holes where water comes in to play

Towards Whistler: Furry Creek and Squamish GCC are nice tracks. Furry Creek has some amazing views of Howe Sound.

What courses are you considering if I may ask?

Hey GL did you mean Northlands?

I can't find a Northview course anywhere

I like the looks of Westwood Plateau.

Hey Nookie

I hadn't really narrowed it down yet.
The one course I really wanted to play is up in Whistler - Nicklaus North.
I've decided against it since I would have to commit a whole day with the drive up and back.
I've been looking at Northlands and Furrey Creek.
I'm hoping to get in three full rounds and a quick 9 holes one day.
Northview sounds interesting but I can't seem to find anything on it.

Thanks guys this has been a big help

Going to Whistler...

Dude, Whistler courses may not be open yet but here's the lowdown for playing Whistler if you can afford it:

Whistler: Arnold Palmer, target golf, not very long and kinda made for the tourist. Typical risk reward layout and the original course opened.

Nicklaus North: Jackie was so proud of this course that he permitted it to use his monicker. Oohh baby! this is a nice track. Long, flat, and expensive.

Chateau Whistler: Robert Trent Jones designed. Haven's played it

Big Sky: Drive about 20 minutes north of Whistler to Pemberton and you run into a Lee Trevino course. I heard this was a nice track also.

I'm pretty sure the courses are just opening but you may want to check. I thought May 15 was their usual opening day. If you are going to go for a weekend of many resort rounds of golf, within 20 minutes you are going to have a plethora of new championship courses designed by some of the top names in golf.

If you are staying in town, I agree that Northview/Arnold Palmer designed is the best bang for buck. It is on 168th Avenue between 64th Street and Fraser Highway.

For scenery, Westwood Plateau is AMAZING... again rent a cart because you will not enjoy walking this mountainous track. There's a lot of distance from Green to next tee.

Have fun BABY!!!

Thanks guys. I've got em lined up now.

Northview - took awhile to find the website, looks like a great course.

Westwood Plateau - looks like the must play course in Vancouver

Northland - being from flat corn country I've got a thing for hilly mountain courses, I love em but rarely play well on them.

I'm still toying with the idea of driving to Whistler to play the Nicklaus course but I'd have to give up 1 visit to the Fox Den so probably not.:D

You will kick yourself if you drive to Whistler to golf without giving yourself adequate time to enjoy the whole resort experience.

The combination of great golf and great pooning in Vancouver would keep me here instead of investing an entire day to golf Nicklaus North.

Westwood Plateau

I used to work on the grounds crew @ Westwood Plateau, that being said I'm not much of a golfer and would never pay too much to play, but I did cash in on my "staff benefits" and play the 18 hole a couple of times over the two summers I worked there (wicked summer job for a student I must say) and I also played the 9 hole course they have up there. I HIGHLY recommend the 9-hole course. It's definetly not a pitch 'n putt, the view is incredible and then you can go and grab some decent food and drinks @ Hazards resturant. I believe (unless prices have changed since '03) that the price for the 9-hole is $40 without a cart, but, honestly if you need a cart to play nine holes then you may want to consider checking in with Jenny!

I played the 9-hole at least three times a week while working @ Westwood, and I never got tired of it. Book a tee time for around 6:00, then you can watch the sun go down while you're draining a few cold ones in front of the picture windows @ Hazards.

Funny LOL

you know I'm about as lazy as the day is long and I swore I was going to walk the courses this year. I haven't been in a golf cart yet and I've lost about 50 lbs. since the first of the year. The first couple of rounds were murder. Shit I just wanted to make it back to the clubhouse on the first round. I've played about 30 - 35 rounds so far this year and I feel great and still loosing lbs.

no jenny for me just the get off your lazy ass and quit eating you fat bastard diet. it was developed by my ex.

Just played Northview Ridge course this afternoon and it is in excellent shape. The roughs are a little deep right now that was my only complaint.

I know it's a ways out from VCR but the Falls in Chilliwack is a real challenge
and also The Sandpiper at Harrison is quite pretty with the river running past it.

I used that last year during the PEAK SEASON, PEAK TEE TIME, including power cart (some has GPS showing yards to the holes)
for $450 for 7 pretty good courses, including
Northview
Morgan Creek
Westwood Plateau

Mayfair is not bad
Furry Creek is over rated, I think.

Over all, very good price and I bought it again this year.

westwood plateau is ....cart mandatory because of the distance between tee boxes. so walking is out of the question. however , you can walk at both northlands and northview. northview i wlak easily and score well there. it is a first class course. northlands is a real mountain course and you will score shitty there unless u have local knowledge, take a cart for sure , do not attempt to walk it as you will be sucking wind and pooped out by the 13th. hole....always shoot to the high side or you will be lossssing a ton of balls. narrow sidehill fairways.
You are right, the 18 hole is cart manditory, however, the 9 hole it is optional. Just to clarify. Even though I do not work there anymore, I did not want it to appear as if I were misleading anyone. Hell, I've worked @ Golden Eagle as well, and walked BOTH their courses, but I wouldn't even TRY to consider walking the 18 @ Westwood. The last time I played it with a cart I shot a 117, and it took me 5h21min! haha. I believe the "on par" time is like 4h35min.

Capilano!

Obviously, no one here really knows much about golf. Capilano golf and Country Club is the top course West of Ontario.

Good Lube,

There are cabins for rent at Sandpiper that can include golf rounds al well as a gourmet dining area. Check the web site for details.
The fees are around 80 with the cart as I recall.

Someone mentioned Morgan Creek and I like this course. The first is a toughy with the swamp on the right leg. I don't care for houses along the fairways as seems to be popular and I have to wonder how a golfer could be held responsible for damage to a home along the course?

I vote for Northview, Westwood Plateau and Semiahmoo. In fact there are 3 courses just across the border. Just next door there's another course that is open to the general public on alternating days with Semiahmoo. The name escapes me at the moment. The other is in Point Roberts. It opened about 5 years ago. Also very nice.
