how do i turn off the screen saver in windows xp?

i have tried:

control panel
display
select 'none'
for screen saver

and 10 minutes later there it is again ... a blank screen screen saver ...

so i tried upping the minutes to 6,000 and 10 minutes later there it is, as blank screen screen saver ...

any other ideas?

the problem is that when i want to run a program to clean file slack stack space (?) the program has to stop because the stupid screen saver comes on ... i shut off all other programs and my external adsl connection but nothing works.

i hate bill gates.

thanks

LG,
I don't think that the blank screen you are getting is really a screen saver.

If you go to the control panel, choose display, then choose screen saver...at the bottom of that menu is another option "monitor power"....and it says "To adjust monitor power savings and save energy click Power"
Click power, and then from the choices click "never"

Try that

If that works, the question for the real techies is....
That shouldn't affect how background programs are running should it? After all, you are in effect just turning off the monitor, not running a screen saver program. Right?

oh....LG I just went back to look at that power saving menu again...make sure you have "never" as the time chosen for the "turn off hard disk" feature too...maybe that is why your other programs turn off....

thanks ezsmile ... i followed the directions though the box that was checked had '1 hour' in it so i changed that to 'never' and will see if that works ... also had 'enable hibernation' checked so I unchecked that as well.

Did you install a seperate screensaver like webshots? That may be overiding your windows screensaver settings. You might have to go to your add/remove programs in your control panel and remove that program or at least open that screensaver program and modify the settings. Also in XP you can right-click any open spot on your desktop, click properties, and you should get to your display properties.
