Thanks to everyone for helping me with my last cellphone question. I got rid of my contract *yay* but now I need some new help.

I would like a recommendation of a GOOD RELIABLE phone that works with a SIM card. I don't need a blackberry or email, I just need a phone that works well and is easy to use with hopefully a good battery life. Most important: Good clear reception and does not have a history of only lasting 6 months.

This is the first time I will be just buying a phone instead of taking one with a contract so I don't know much about phones. I am going to buy a used phone and want to avoid getting a lemon.

Katlyn, you have to give us more info. For example, is your SIM card Rogers or Fido? Are you planning to buy an authorized Rogers/Fido phone or an unlocked phone? What features are important to you? What is your budget? What style are you looking for? Any preferred brands?

Just as there are reviews on babes, i.e. Perb. There are cell phone review sites. I like http://www.gsmarena.com/ & http://smape.com/en/ . A good strategy is once you found a phone you are interested, read a few reviews.

Thanks so much for the links!

I'm looking for an unlocked phone that I can use around the world, other than that I can't answer your questions as I don't know! :)

If that's the case, make sure you get a quad-band phone, and I really stress this. It must support 850/1900 (North America) & 900/1800 (rest of the world) to ensure maximum compatibility and coverage.

As far as reliability goes, I do believe that Nokia and Samsung are best in that regard.

Sony Ericsson makes some very nice phones. Any of the W or K series phones I would recommend. I like Sony's because they are tough, they are also pretty easy to find unlocked.

I have found Nokia's to be a bit too fragile.

Forget about all the rhetoric the others have spewed here Kalyn because they obviously have no idea what they are talking about.

I suggest you go with the most secure & reliable communications equipment on the market today & the good news is it is a low tech communication solution for those people like you who don't have the time or where with all to learn all that complicated electronics mumbo jumbo.

You will note the above equipment utilizes single band technology if you want quad band I can add 3 more strings.

;)

Sony Ericson have the best basic phones. Before I went Blackberry I would buy a cheap phone when I went to Europe and change the SIM card to match each country and get the lowest rates. The Sony ones were very intuitive to use, had long battery life and were very robust. Nokia's are pretty damn good. Avoid LG.
My last phone was an LG and in the one year warranty period I went through 4 phones! Never again.
