I could be wrong, but wasn't he the first one to run to the media? Writing some diatribe about why CBC fired him, claiming false pretences. Wasn't it only after him going public about it that the CBC made a public statement? Then after that, it sort of blew up in the media and more women started coming forward.

Couldn't he have quietly left CBC and not raised a fuss?

I haven't been paying close attention, so I could be wrong about the order of events.
no, you've got it right. but even if he had left cbc quietly, his accusers (not cbc by the way) would have kept digging in order to make it public. so he pre-empted their story. like i said, now THEY (his accusers) have to disprove his stance that the rough sex was consentual. now he can sit back and say, 'yeah? prove it... in court'

The accusers were Jesse Brown (he has a podcast called "Canadaland") and the Toronto Star newspaper.

The main vehicle would be the Toronto Star as it has legal advisers and the cash to push the JG story forward.

On October 30 the Toronto cops said there wasn't an investigation but today (October 31) it looks like a couple of the women came forward and an investigation is going ahead.

From a twitter posting it looks like JG may have video-taped his ... activities and one of his accusers may have taken one of his tapes ...

It looks like JG ran a video for the CBC executives on October 23 (Thursday) night ... "sometimes there is bruising ???" ....

It also looks like the Q management (not the current team but the prior bunch) may have known of JG's inclinations but sort of brushed it aside as JG and the Q Program were getting more and more popular.

It was an easy call for the CBC Executives who fired JG ...

If you look at the pics of JG .... it he smary or smarmy or both ... ???
Your Q Host is a beating up fans, staff and guests ???
Did your producers know of JG ... hobby and ignored it ???

Is the CBC open to a legal challenge from victims ???

An interesting parallel would be NY Governor, Elliot Spitzer.
He was accused of seeing prostitutes while in office. From the outside it seemed like a reasonable accusation with ample evidence. The hidden truth behind the matter was that Spitzer had published a damming article in the Washington Post outlining the predatory banking practices that led to the recent housing crash. He was railroaded out of office!
Spitzer wasn't railroaded out of office. As Attorney General he vigorously prosecuted prostitution. He was turfed for being a hypocrite

Watch the documentary "Client 9" and then rethink that statement.
Spritzer went after Wall Street and they went after him.

The first eight clients weren't touched but Spitzer as number 9 sure was.

Gary Glitter? Pete Townsend?

Wall Street may have gone after him but he wasn't railroaded. He was a hypocrite and it caught up to him.

The point being you were incorrect saying he went after prostitution. He tried to regulate Wall Street as the NY State Governor. He was caught seeing SP's after being set up. By whom? Pretty easy guess.

You don't get it. As AG he vigorously prosecuted prostitution. He used prostitutes. That make him a hypocrite. How he was caught is irrelevant.

Don't be ignorant. Go read the history or watch this documentary about this before posting.

He was not crusading against prostitutes.

Spitzer was called "The Sheriff of Wallstreet" for a reason.

Don't be ignorant. If you check his record as AG you will see he aggressively prosecuted prostitution. He was then caught using prostitutes. My point is he is a hypocrite. Whether Wall Street set him up or not is irrelevant. He prosecuted prostitution, he used prostitutes himself. He is a hypocrite. That was all I ever said. Anyway, this thread is about Gomeshi. IMHO Bay Street didn't set him up!

Better come up with your fact check because his list of cases as AG has zero mention of prosecuting prostitutes.

Wow...just watched the Toronto Police Service press conference...looks like Ghomeshi is in for it.
At this stage, it seems like the police inquiry is a formality. Yes, there are allegations, but there's no longer physical evidence. How far would any of this go in leading to a conviction? The court of public opinion seems to be doing it's job and his professional relationships/associations are also imploding.

Lots of assault cases are determined without physical evidence.
Example: old abuse cases from ten or more years ago.

JG may have video-taped his encounters and one of his victims may have a copy . (From a Twitter posting ...)

It's gonna be one of those ... HE SAID SHE SAID kangaroo court case. He will hang because of the public outcry and opinion of the case...not from any real evidence.

Its is in the court's OPINION......
It is in the CBC's OPINION.........

Well, it's also in THREE DIFFERENT WOMEN giving THREE SEPARATE SWORN STATEMENTS with the same creepy evidence. He's talked publically about his teddy bear(yes, really!) named Big Ears. Three complainants all allege that before he assaulted them, he made a point of saying Big Ears Teddy shouldn't see this, and repositioning the bear... My first thought? Big Ears Teddy= highly voyeuristic use of a nannycam. Wait for it. The police are said to have GRAPHIC evidence. Can you think of anything more graphic than videotapes?

If this was an episode of Criminal Minds, Garcia would be looking up Nannycam Teddybears as we watched.
