I was hoping somebody may have some suggestions for a great caviar tasting venue in or near Vancouver. It could be out as far as Whistler, or down as far as Seattle, but the closer to Vancouver the better.

I am aware of a few restaurants that offer chef tasting menus which feature caviar, and if anybody has an favourites, I would love to hear those as well.

However, what I am really looking for is a place that serves a variety of caviar with the essential compliments, so that we are able to compare, contrast and appreciate the subtle nuances of diversity.

Since we would be looking to sample a variety, a place which offers options of less than an ounce of each would be ideal. There is only so much deliciousness I can handle in one go ;-)

Than you in advance for any suggestions!

Wishing everybody a joyful and productive week, filled with the appreciation, beauty, gratitude and abundance you deserve!

I would also like to know. I think Blue Water has some, but not a tasting menu type to compare. Let me know if you find something or someplace.

Russian and iranian caviars have the worldly reputation , however.......have you ever tried UNI?......not soooo salty as sturgeon caviar.
Its the finest caviar in the world , not from the sturgeon, but from either a red or green sea urchin.
the most popular UNI is from our own northern waters and is mostly red urchin.
it is very VERY fine eggs in a little membrane sack and should be a nice tan/golden colour if real fresh , then slowly getting darker by the day.
if its real chocolate dark... forgetaboutit..
.many world chefs have some awesome recipes for it now. It has fantastic flavour , like a creamy chessnut. Not like stugeon or lumpfish which is all salt flavour.
order it straight up or on sushi rice is unbeleivable... its a aquired taste :)
enjoy and support our own west coast wild fishery.

Angel, I don't know anything about caviar, ..................... I have a hard enough time buying a box of Chicken McNuggets.

But I want to proclaim that I always enjoy your polite, straight to the point, passionate and classy posts on here. They are not self serving, gloating or bragging about yourself, nor are they ever confrontational.

I love your last sentence in your post,..:clap2:

Wishing everybody a joyful and productive week, filled with the appreciation, beauty, gratitude and abundance you deserve!
and I certainly understand why "Classy Angel" is very befitting...:thumb:

I highly recommend Blue Water in Yaletown for this, Angel. They offer several options for caviar (with all the standard accompaniments), and they could do a tasting menu for you.

I was treated to this experience last year by a wonderful gent from Seattle. He selected a heavenly bottle of Champagne to go with it, and well, I melted in his arms later, let me tell you!!

Have fun!

Thank you to everybody for taking the time to respond, as well a for the lovely compliment! Very much appreciated on all accounts ;-)

I have not yet acquired a taste for Uni, but I'm working on it ;-)

Blue Water and Hawksworth were the ones I had been thinking of, so it is great to hear wonderful feedback regarding Blue Water.

If anybody has further suggestions, I would also love to hear those.

With happiness and gratitude,

Angel

I found another. The roof at black and blue.

They have 3 types, and you can purchase quantities as small as 12g for $95.

I enjoyed a lovely dinner there the other night, but can't attest to the caviar tasting, as I am waiting for a special occasion to celebrate that with ;-)

Wishing everybody an amazing week, filled with joy, beauty, appreciation and gratitude!

Ohhhhh Blue Water...

Before the Neil Diamond concert, my Edmonton ATF took me there for dinner! We LOVED every minute of it. The attention to detail by the servers and staff was obvious in EVERY detail. There was caviar of various types in the dishes we chose, including golden caviar so incredibly tiny but BURSTING with flavour against the tongue! (I love caviar because it's like bubble wrap for my tongue!)

Angel, I am sure if you called and told them what you are looking for, Blue Water will do exactly what you want: black bread and all!
