IMO, it would be stupid not to ask first, and just show up with US$.

And with the Yankee greenback worth a few farthings more than the Canadian dollar these days, anyone who didn't accept U.S. dollars at par would have to be awfully poor with her marketing skills.
There was a Japanese lady I used to see about 4-5 years ago, when the exchange rate was so much better for USD than it is today. After the first of many visits she said if I paid her in USDollars the next time it would involve a considerable discount for me, and it was.
The reason was she would get a much more favorable rate back in Japan than she would with the Canadian dollars. It was a win/win for both of us.
Saw her about 5 times and it amounted to about 95 USD each time. She was a bargain, in more ways than one.
hey chicago12 did u notice below the PERB banner it shows CANADIAN provinces, hence they use CANADIAN dollars. common sense is no longer common........
