the big problem with the Canucks is because they haven't drafted well, they can't trade guys like Raymond because after him the pickings are thin for NHL ready prospects

Kesler, Edler and Raymond aren't solid prospects?

They are solid but way too soon to put these players in that rank.
Remember this---- when Cowan first made his debut everyone Loved him and held him high!! I remember this and I'm sure everyone on here did. It was all over the papers.
Well look at him now. Don't get me wrong i like the players you listed but Lets see how they fair in a couple of Years.

Free agents?

Sit On My Face: I agree with Evan. Who cares if they free up $12M-$15M with those contracts ending. Who exactly are they going to sign with it? Wait...I got it.....Naslund and Morrison!!! There's no one out there that's this bonafide "sniper" you're looking at getting (except maybe Hossa and he is a Naslund no heart clone). And to everyone that thinks Nazzy is gonna be taking a huge paycut, I wouldn't count on it. Have you seen what 30 goal scorers are going for? He probably still gets in the $4M range whether you like it or not as one of the bottomfeeders this year is sure to offer something like that to him and dont count on a hometeam discount.

The only way they get a pure-scorer is through a trade. Unfortunately, that's going to cost them at least one of Edler, Kesler, Bieksa, or Raymond at least so don't get too attached. As a fan you need to choose: 1) Ride out all the young guys for a few years in which case Luongo probably leaves and you are back to looking for a goalie or, 2) make a deal in the summer for a 40 goal guy (which I must point out is only 10 more goals than Nazzy is going to get this year) and hope 10 more goals gets you the Cup.

Unless you think there is a 100 goal scorer out there not in the NHL just dying to shock the world and sign with the Canucks, this sniper you are looking for just does not exist.

Who said 'sniper'????

The problem with Naslund is NOT that he doesn't score enough goals,
but his ATTITUDE!!!!!

Where is that 'win at all costs' attitude that helps win games?

Sure, gotta score to win, but when your top guy has the attitude that
he should be paid $6mil for barely showing up there's going to be
problems with the WHOLE team ...

Losing Buttoozi cleared up a big stink in the room and Naslund and
Morrison should have been shopped for something.

Finally, this 'attitude' of 'building for the future' has been going on
for 40 fucking years ...

Win a cup or shut the fuck up already ...

Trade away the future to win now? Why not??? It would be a FIRST
for this team to win something for their fans.

Its nice to point to teams like Detroit and gush about 'great scouting' ...
but the OTHER reality is that many of the now 'good' teams spent
tons of money when our wunderkind Burke was pissing over $100,000
rides to the airport!

If Vancouver had had a real owner who spent real money they would
have assets now to work with ...

Unfortunately, Burke bought nothing so there's nothing to sell either ...

Its been 14 years since we got close and how many more of 'the future'
before it just becomes futile???

The way this team has played, here's my $20 bet on changes:

1. Naslund gone ... forget about home town discount etc., this guy
has been overpaid for too many years ...

2. Morrison ... unless he takes a major cut in salary and even then
will get packaged to go ...

3. Cowan ... from Brabarian to boob in no time flat ...

4. I don't know if its allowed, but the Nucks will do anything to get
rid of Salo ... too expensive, too fragile, and if they can eat some of
his salary wave bye-bye ...

5. Linden ... it was fun, thanks, really, but bye player, hello coach!

By this point you have nearly $12 million and change to sign some
guys and do some shopping ...

A solid Second Line would be the Sedins with Pyatt ... and they just all
need to put on some size and Pyatt has to keep going to the net.

A solid Third Line can be Burrows, Kesler and Pettinger ...

Shannon, Raymond and Isbister can be a fourth line ...

So what can they get for a top line???

My thoughts exactly they need are in desperate need of a top line only thing holding them back in my opinion

Without Luongo this team would be a bottom feeder. Luongo is amazing.

Vigneault needs to play Linden and scratch garbage players like Isbister and Cowan.

Vigneault has been saving Linden for the leter part of the season in my humble opinion... I think Linden, if played too much gets tired and loses his skill, but sit him and let him rejuvenate, he is a better leader and player... See him as a staple on the team from here on out... Good decision on Vigneault to sit him imho...

Isbister is better than many players, he needs attention though, and not be let lose... The man has some wicked speed and size... He needs to use it... I've liked him since his Oiler years..
