Honestly, I have seen this season's dismal start coming ever since Petterson and Boeser decided to do a contract negotiation holdout and miss training camp.
Did the coach lose the support of locker room, the GM... or did they ? Whatever it is, something's been broken ever since then, and it wasn't so great even before that.
Plus consider how the Canucks let some other guys slip away who later proved so valuable to their new teams (and got revenge on the Canucks whenever they played them), and kept getting stuck with some useless players with large dead-weight contracts (Ballard, Ericsson). That falls on GM's and owners, and not coaches.
Just shows you how incompetent the ownership group is to hire a coach when you don't have a GM. Any GM will want to hire their own coach and not someone who the Aqulini's already hired. Come to think of it what competent hockey guy will want the job when the owners mettle in the business too much. Look for a "yes" man to be the new GM
Exactly. Fans in the stadium should have chanted "fire the owners", even if that's asking for something impossible. (And they should keep the chant in their back pocket in case this turnover doesn't fix things.)
The Canucks' fortunes have always seemed to wax and wane depending on who owns them. Remember the McCaw bros, and how those years went? Yeah, I think everyone who does was happier to forget them.
Coaches always face the executioner first. GM's next. "Hockey Operations" execs after that. And owners never.
