Well, another season of futility limps to an end.
I wonder if the cheerleaders in the media, and rabid fans understand how bad the Canucks are.
I didn't expect the Canucks to make the playoffs or have anything but a scrape-the-bottom sort of year. The fact that got the positioning they did (9th last) is thanks to their young players, but doing better than expected also makes their draft position suck more.
Do I expect better in the future? Yeah.
Lots of markers to indicate how far they lag in some areas. Like when you look in the top 25 or 30 or even 50 NHL scoring leaders, and there's not a single Canuck among them (yeah, way down at #61, I checked). It makes me laugh though, at the fact that Edmonton has McDavid & Draisaitl both over 100 points and still failing worse than the Canucks are.
Horvat, Petterson, Boeser, Hughes - should be getting better and better as a team if the Canucks management don't fuck up the future. What the team needs might not be out there for them in this draft.
There's not many people who say "trade Edler", but I've been one of them for a few years now. In his case, I think the stats overstate his usefulness.
If you ever feel bad about the Canucks, check out the Ottawa Senators: The franchise went from major contender to basket case in just a few years; like the Oilers, the team seems to now have the "black spot" (where players around the NHL do not want to be traded there or if they are there, want to be traded away); if they can't compete for star players in that smaller market, they are in danger of being moved; the problem is primarily the team owner and the fans are openly at war with him.
