This frigging Gillis & the rest of his marketing clowns--already sacked with one of the worst scouting in the NHL comes up with this idiotic 'salute....who have made a lasting impact on the franchise'

hmmmm. How abt this for lasting impact:

1. Bertuzzi's coward cheapshot on Moore

2. Cloutier allowing Lidstrom to score fr center ice

3. Naslund 'choking ' speech

4. Blowing a 3-1 series lead against the Wild

I mean, I can certainly go on and on since there have been so many injustices, travesties, humiliating & embarrassing moments in our pathetic franchise.

There at NO winning moments in this franchise--just a losing tradition!!!!

I am absolutely not impressed with the retiring of Naslund's jersey. When I think Canucks, I don't think him. When I think of Smyl and Linden, I think Canucks.

Having said that, I hope I get tickets to the game they raise his jersey to see what the crowd does. He was a good player that had some great years and I can't forget his wicked wrist shot, but that was it. Makes me wonder why we retire his jersey ahead of Bure's? I will always remember Bure as an electric Canuck who always made you rise to your feet.

Thought they'd retire Bures jersey before markus. I dont think they suck as much as some other teams in the league. We finally have our Art ross n heart trophy winner.....we're slowly getting there. Atleast we're not the leafs and made the playoffs .....i heard they havent made the post season for the past 6 yrs.

.

True, Naslund was a great player but both Linden and Smyl had a much larger impact on the team. They didnt just 'play' as Canucks, they WERE the Canucks.

i say NO jerseys should be retired until the canucks win the stanley cup - and then the jersey should belong to a member of that winning team

I hate to say I agree with BJHunter but he has a point. I feel like twoblues and rotcod, there are plenty of other players who come to mind in the clubs history that should have their numbers retired before Naslund.

Hopefully we'll see Messier and Sundin get the honor next... ;)

Don't you worry, the more we watch our frigging nucks, they keep on doing more stupid things. Not only will they retire Bure's number, but Luongo too one day ;)

that, dear fellow perbites, will happen before we ever win our first Cup!

What...you're projecting that Gillis is going to run this ship into the ground because of past management misdeeds and because he retired Naslund's jersey?

Naslund might not be a hall of famer, but you could certainly do worse than honour his career (which has no effect on the performance of the team now or in the future, btw). The guy did have a very good six year run statistically between 2000 - 2006 with three 40+ goal seasons and 30+ goals in six, broke 100 points once, played on one of the most exciting and feared offensive lines in the NHL over that period, and was captain for eight seasons. Plus, on top of that he was a class act all the way through.

And fyi...the Canucks don't retire numbers. They raised his jersey into the "Ring of Honour". I don't have any problem with the team "honouring" a guy like that because I think he did represent the team honourably. What really begs the question is why any person would be offended (like you seem to be) that an organization has chosen to honour someone?!?! It doesn't effect your pocketbook, the team's performance, or your self-esteem (or does it?!?)...so why does it matter to you that they have chosen to present such an honour to a classy person such as he?

And furthermore...how is it that you are assuming a new ownership group (who did put together a very good team last year who won the division and arguably played the Blackhawks better than any of their playoff competitors...at times even looking dominant) and a sophomore GM are going to do the same "stupid things" as you call it? THEY ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHIES AND DIFFERENT STYLES.

Seriously...I question your logic and intelligence when I read your comments sometimes. It really doesn't bother me to know that your opinions are so whacked out, but it does bother me when you take a classy guy who was given an honour, and bash him like you do as if he's done something to you personally. Christ...win or lose, I'd rather have my organization be represented by a character like Naslund over a Barry Bonds or Ray Lewis anyday.

To me, Hockey Hall of Fame = Jersey Retirement. Naslund had maybe three dominant seasons. I think retiring his jersey is setting the bar too low for the Vancouver organization. It would be like the Oilers retiring Ryan Smyth's or Doug Weight's jersey.

I am actually embarrassed that Smyl and Linden jerseys are retired. Both were never stars in the league and don't deserve recognition...at home or around the NHL.
Bure should be retired and Naslund is 2nd on my list.

Dear huggzy,

it's ppl like u that have no logic. I'm not the only one here who thinks retiring losers like Naslund, Linden etc is a joke: read Threepeat's post, Inthebum's, after my rant. As mentioned, retiring jerseys or mentioning 'honour' should be for WINNERS. Ie Sakic. Yzerman. Lemieux. Gretzky. Get the drift????

You may b right; doesn't affect my pocketbook or my life but you frigging CH KH & BW just have such low low standards, it's embarrasing that we cheer for the same team.

Despite naslund's good stats, he NEVER took us past the 2nd round!!!! So that's a dominant player? That's a guy u want on yr team? How abt the coach&gm at that time? That's what imean: Gillis will do the same idiotic things, like past history has shown, ESP with this team.

Going back to loser captains, Saku Koivu is the ONLY Habs captain not to hv won a Cup---now that's a tough tough label. In comparison, what do u think of the Montreal media's views on our history? Give yrself a shake, smell the rises, get some fresh air & quit snorking that weed: you're supposed to just inhale ;)

when u come to yr less pitiful state, you'll realize our frigging nucks are just a laughing stock

Stick to what you know cocksucker, Pierre Turgeon never won a cup and he was the captain for the 95 to 96 season. Its might be a tough label for Koivu but no true Habs fans will hold that against him as he captained some of the crappiest teams in the franchise's history. So do me a favor when you want to comment about the Habs do your research you ignorant useless fuck. Stick to bashing the Canucks that's all you will ever be good for.

I am actually embarassed that a homo like you is embarassed about Smyl and Lindens jersey's being retired.
They both did more for the Canucks and the community than your sorry stinking ass will do in a life time , or in your case 100 lifetimes.
Give your head a shake and clean the shit out of your mouth !

Now , back to the thread after my rant , hehehe.
I agree , Naslund should not have his jersey retired.

SAY WHAT?! You don't honestly consider your constant bashing and denigrating of every player and management decision "cheering" for them, do you?! The kind of vitriol you constantly spew is not what most sports enthusiasts would consider "cheering". No, BJhunter. Say it loud and say it proud. You HATE the Canucks. You HATE everything about them. Which is fine. That's your perogative and it's you're right to have it. But the word your looking for is "jeering" -- not "cheering". And you'd be delusional if you thought otherwise.

The difference between people like you and people like me is that I don't live vicariously through the sports teams that I follow. I don't live and die by them. I'm not so emotionally invested in them that I'm devastated by them just because a referee makes a bad call or the team might get upset in a playoff round.

Why would this embarrass you? The Canucks honouring Naslund isn't a reflection upon you? Do you actually think that you're a member of the Canucks organization?

You see...I'm emotionally balanced enough to realize that sports teams are just entertainment. I don't need to denigrate any human being just because they didn't achieve the pinnacle of success, because at the end of the day whether a sports team wins or loses they don't affect my life one iota. Now...incompetent, dishonest and corrupt people, such as politicians - that's a different story because when they fuck up that effects all of us.

Sports athletes...not so much. Is it great if a team wins? Yes, its fun while it lasts and then the euphoria goes away. Guys like you get so invested that you somehow think its you donning on the skates and are out there with these guys holding up the cup. I've got a newsflash for you BJHunter - YOU'RE NOT A PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY PLAYER...YOU'RE NOT A VANCOUVER CANUCK!!! When they win, BJ, YOU'RE NOT WINNING. And when they lose, BJ, YOU'RE NOT LOSING EITHER. I hate to burst your bubble BJH, but you're not a professional hockey player, nor are you management, nor do you play any part in whether they win or lose...no matter how much complaining, whinging, whining you do.

YOU DO NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE BJH...BUT LOSERS LIKE YOU ARE DELUDED ENOUGH TO THINK YOU DO, AND DELUDED ENOUGH TO THINK THAT WHAT THEY DO REALLY MATTERS IN PEOPLE'S LIVES...well, unless you have nothing else going for you in your life.

So at the end of the day if a guy gives a good, honest effort with class AND CONTRIBUTES TO MAKING THE OVERALL COMMUNITY A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE for which his employer and fans appreciates enough that they want to honour him...than so be it. But this begs the question...why do you take efforts to write this drivel so that people who might feel good for the guy might feel shame by what you wrote? Why do you derive pleasure from bringing people down? This is a reflection on you as a person and the priorities you have in life.

GET A LIFE, BJH...THEN THIS STUFF WOULDN'T BE SO IMPORTANT TO YOU THEN.

But then again, I guess as you say I don't have "no logic" because my perspective on life is different than yours. Apparently, I'm a "loser" because I think there's more important things in my life to do than to waste time and effort denigrating people, and putting pressure on someone elses' business organization and its employees so that they can win something that you contribute absolutely nothing to.

It's called having perspective on life. Why don't you see if you can find some?

unbelievable. Simply staggering. But hey what do I expect from a KH?

It's called Tough Love. I cheer for my nucks and want them to do well. I don't hate the frigging nucks, dear. I wantthe best for them but when u do stupid lame things like this 'Ring of Honour', do u know how lame that looks around the league? Got buddies in Toronto & Ottawa that are just having a field day with Gillis' latest gaffe. What winning history do we have? We're marginally better (cup finals twice) but we've been here a lot longer. At least TO has won the cup so they do hv past winners. But us? What a joke!!! Should Spezza & Yashin be given this honour? I mean, they put up pretty good stats & done community stuff....where does it stop?

We are all entitled to our opinions. Maybe you think Gillis is doing a wonderful job, I'm sure he worries lot, spends long hours but what does he have to show for it after 3 years?

Sorry to burst yr bubble and Huggzy but this is the sports WINNING business. This isn't abt how you & I live our lives, how much good cocksucking we're going to receive fr these lovely ladies, whether we should pay down the mortgage or contribute to our rrsps nor whether to wear brown or black shoes.

It's to point out how delirious, idiotic, brain-washed so-called hockey fans in this beautiful city but tainted so disgustingly by the CH KH BW, the very vile, scum of the earth, the snot one finds early in the morning, the hack in their throats, .....

Dude...WHO CARES WHAT YOUR BUDDIES ARE SAYING? ITS CALLED TAKING THE PISS OUT OF THEIR FRIEND...so have fun with it, don't get so butthurt by it. You don't think your TO buddies don't have the piss taken out of them all the time??? Every team has their down times - even the Detroit Red Wings. What's "lame" is that you let things like this bother you.

Of course sports is a winning business...you don't think everyone knows this? But guess what...YOU SITTING THERE SHITTING ON PEOPLES' HEADS DOESN'T HELP ANYTHING, but you don't get that.

What is this "gaffe" that Gillis did?!?! Honouring Naslund won't negatively affect the performance of this team.

You clearly have never played any decent level of sport. If you had you'd recognize how idiotic and obsessed you sound, particularly to these athletes (yes BJH, even the athletes that win championships would say your psychotic)

BJH...has it ever dawned on you that the "delirious, idiotic, brain-washed so-called hockey fan" of the city actually have a healthy perspective of things and just enjoy the sport for what it is? Who the fuck needs you shitting on everyone's parade because you think you're going to get a Stanley Cup ring due to your "tough love"?!?!? How retarded can you get?

Christ...if you don't like what a team does, don't whine and snivel because that doesn't help. If you really want to make a statement - THEN DON'T WATCH THE TEAM THEN and spend your money and time on something else.

And I'll never see the logic in people who get so upset because one of the best Canucks (yes...he was one of the best in their 40 year history), a classy player and leader, and an outstanding citizen recieves an honour from its employer. Hey...feel free to disagree if you want, there's nothing wrong with that. But the hate you demonstrate is fucking disturbing and shows how much you truly lack perspective.
