OOOh, I'm so excited to see so many of the players from last season (or technically the one before that ;))

Ohlund, 28, has been one of the Canucks’ top defencemen since his rookie season of 1997-98. In 480 career games, all with Vancouver, Ohlund has recorded 54 goals, 158 assists (212 points) and 400 penalty minutes. He has also played 30 NHL Playoff games with the Canucks. For his accomplishments on the ice, he has been named to the 1998 NHL All-Rookie Team and to the World All-Star Team in 1999. The 2005-2006 season will mark Ohlund’s eighth season with the club.

That's the good news. Now the bad, "The Ohlund deal pushes the Canucks payroll over $37 million, leaving them with less than $2 million under the salary cap." If you are thinking that they might/should sign some more free agents, you can forget about it. They'll have trouble resigning all their remaining restricted free agents, most notably Matt Cooke.

makes you wonder if a jovo trade is coming up ... he is unrestricted next year, and will command big bucks ... the nucks could get a couple okay players (and i noticed they signed two okay defensemen and one marginal winger) so to keep cooke, ruutu et al, the may move jovo ...

make sense?

I like Matt Cooke. I think he's underrated and underpaid for what he does.
We signed Richard Park and I think we should just let him go. Good skater but no hands and no grit at all.

i think they might have to trade jovo for say a young upstart defencemen because they can't afford him if he tests the UFA market

I think they'll see how the team does the first half of the year. If the Canucks are sucking wind near the trade deadline, you might see Jovo moved, but I doubt they'll start the season that way.

It's too bad about Matt Cooke. I hope they sign him. I agree he's under-rated, and he is one of the players who raised his game at the end of the last season and against Calgary in the playoffs.

The team mgmt might feel that if the no obstruction calls the league is crowing about are for real, they don't need both Cooke and Ruutu. In that case, I would guess Ruutu will be gone.
