yes, the nfl is the only truly performance based league. you play well, you get paid well next year, you suck, you're fired. funny how the richest league in the world has the tightest cba. anyways the nhl is getting bad right now, but it will come to and end in 2 years when all these long term deals are still in place, and teams have nothing to spend. those free agents will have to settle for a lot less. the cap will not go up much. the league revenues are mainly based on attendance. total opposite of the nfl where all the money is in tv. all the stadiums in the nfl could be empty and the teams will still make money. back to the nhl, attendance is already at a high level. nowhere else to get more revenue, except god forbid, expansion. 3-5 years from now we could be hearing Bettman at the microphone welcoming Winnipeg and Portland into the league.
Still not as bad as the NBA with the 10 year contracts they throw out, and the flimsy cap they have. You can score 8 points shooting 20% and still make over 4 million a year in that league. A joke.
