Canadian Medal count (and maybe a few funny pics of Russia along the way) !!

OK, there's like 4 Olympics threads in the first page discussing the same thing. Can we just consolidate these threads into one Olympics threads?

.
Its only for another week or so Mr. Grumpy.

and FYI - This thread is about medals. The other is about decay. the other about a beer fridge. all very different themes. :pound:

:D

edit: P.S. Oh and hey. Didn't you just post some sexy Olympic athletes in yet another thread? DIDN'T YOU!?!?!?!?

Oh man, the Americans got screwed royally. The 2nd goal scored by Canada should never have counted. Any on or off ice official involved in allowing that goal to stand should not be allowed to officiate for the rest of the tournament.
i watched it... i don't see what the controversy is about - the goalie was not interfered with, the canadian did skate through the blue goal crease area but it was completely independent of the puck at that point. it could be argued that the puck was not visible and should have been whistled dead, but then the camera doesn't necessarily see what the officials see, and might not have been dead at all. besides, i'm not sure what the international rules say about dead pucks. when i was a kid the puck had to be invisible for 3 seconds - now the way the nhl calls it it's almost instantaneous. in this case no way it was 3 seconds... more like a second and a half

whether the whistle blew before or after the goal seems to be a case of 'he said - she said' but the official review called it a goal. theoretically they reviewed the audio as well as the video

seems like a media controversy to me - maybe the media were tired from not being able to wipe their bums properly in their 'inferior accomodations'

as stompin' tom would have said, 'the crowd it roars, buddy scores - it's the good ole hockey game!'

I thought it was interesting watching the ladies downhill. Gisin was one of the first down, and usually the first three are up front at the finish waiting for the rest of the skiers to come down. No doubt she thought that one of the big names to follow her would pass her time, but as skier after skier came down you could see her expression change. At first it was "glad to have competed", then slowly hope of a medal started to be a possibility. Maze came down and there was a dead heat for first spot. After that, the favorites came and one by one they failed as well. You could see in her face the hope of just a medal turn to the crazy possibility of gold. When the last contender came down she was in tears. That impressed me, watching someone's impossible dreams come true. That has to be one of the most awesome experiences for these athletes, not the ones that everyone expects to win, but the ones no one expects to win. :).

Screw CBC for split screening his shitty skate side by side the hockey game. Put his Battle of the Blades dance audition on one of the bajillion other channels covering the Olympics. They couldn't show that shit in the Finland/Norway game?

Luongo played really well today. He may have just won the starting job.
Isn't he the guy who was tarred and feathered, and run out of Vancouver?

It was live on TSN at the same time. So I have no idea why they split screen for that. Figure skating is a scam anyways, the medals are for the most part decided beforehand based on prior competitions. The top 5 basically just jockey for the medals.
There is literally no chance an unknown ever medals.

i've always thought if it can't be measured, counted or timed it shouldn't be in the olympics

It really is more like even at 1.5 seconds after the whistle, it still becomes 2-3 seconds as it's from the point of where the ref intends the play to end, not when he blows the whistle. Regardless, it's a moot point as it's not being reversed.
watching multiple replays i can see where the whistle was definitely blown well before the puck crossed the line so you were right in your original call

i guess now in the olympics, the people reviewing the video can over-rule the refs on the ice

Somehow the Japanese guy, set the world record in the short skate. Go figure that out.

I'd rather watch something like the long jump on skates.

The most amusing picture so far is this one of the American skater Ashley Wagner before and after she saw her scores:

This is the girl who actually came 4th in the trials for the Olympics, but was given the spot on the team ahead of the third placed skater because of her "prior performances" (Translation: she had more powerful friends).
It looks like she could give a really scary BBBJ. I would see this girl and say thanks but no thanks.

I was gonna comment that it's "bobby scores" not "buddy scores" but I'd be refered to as a "stickler for that kind of s..t" lol

Danny Morrison wins again - BRONZE!!

Denny Morrison has won a bronze medal in the men’s 1,500 metres at the Sochi Olympics. It’s the Fort St. John, B.C., native’s second medal of the Games after he won silver in the 1,000.

Jan Hudec wins bronze medal for Canada in men’s alpine super-G

A lucky loonie buried at the finish line of the men’s super-G competition may have helped Canadian Jan Hudec make history.

Calgary’s Jan Hudec won an Olympic bronze medal for Canada in men’s alpine skiing super-G, becoming the first Canadian to do so in 20 years.

Dear Global news,
I signed up for "Breaking News Alerts". Receiving five email alerts in the duration of a single hockey game is a bit overboard, imho. Let me know when some real news happens.
