This is big news since all the big Cell Networks ripped their existing infrastructure equipment to replace it with Huawei from China. Rogers, Bell, Telus all went on the Huawei bandwagon. 5G testing in ongoing now.
Now it's not just the USA ringing alarm bells; Australia has banned them and other Western Nations are scrutinizing them closely.
The big fear is their 5G equipment could be used to spy on users. Since USA and Canada have integrated economies the intel could be used against us via these Cell Networks.

Mr. Nakasone, who heads the U.S. signals intelligence agency, told the Senate intelligence committee that he would not use Huawei products because the company answers to the ruling Communist Party. Article 7 of China’s 2017 National Intelligence Law says that Chinese companies must “support, co-operate with and collaborate in national intelligence work, and guard the secrecy of national intelligence work they are aware of.”
