Canada Flag Travel

Simple rule of travel; Canadians are loved, Americans are hated. Don't be mistaken for an American. Get that travel flag.
Why don’t we just start by putting a Canada flag outside your house, condo ect ect… on Canada day….
I've travelled in many parts of the world, mostly for work, occasionally for holidays. I see no need to advertise that I'm Canadian, and I don't bother plastering flags on my luggage and clothing. People who are interested in where I come from will ask. If they don't care, I have no reason to point out my nationality.
As for Americans being hated, that's an over-generalisation. Much of my work travel has been with Americans, so presumably I was assumed to be American by people with whom we had casual contact. I rarely sensed hostility.

In my many, many travels, Canadians are loved, once they realize you’re Canadian and not American. Americans are generally viewed as pushy. I wear a Canadian flag, be it on a backpack, shirt or hat. Interestingly I have had some Americans approach me when Trump was in and apologize for their president but also to thank Canada for its many contributions. Wear the flag proudly!
I was in Mexico some years back, was talking to an American guy in a bar. He thought from the way I talked I was from Wisconsin. Told him nope, from Saskatchewan.
Maybe in the sixties and the seventies when the world was more dewy eyed and less fucking dangerous. Now I see it as trying to draw attention to yourself about something nobody gives a shit about and possibly setting yourself up as a target for someone with a grudge. Sort of lame grandstanding. Flag waving is kind of obnoxious.
There was a show a few years ago where two Canadian guys were traveling together. Both nice guys. But in Russia, they had a guide who was also a nice guy and had their best interests at heart. They got to some town in the boonies where they wanted to go to a bar. The Russian guy said he would go and buy them some beer, but they had best stay put at the small hotel. They protested, but he told them it would be extremely dangerous to go with him and he wouldn't be able to protect them. So they stayed put.

Finally angry anderson and I agree on something. I consider myself very lucky indeed to have been born in Canada and to continue to live here, but why would I flash the flag around as if having been born here is some kind of personal achievement? Swanning around the world wearing a maple leaf flag doesn't seem much different to me than doing so wearing a maga hat. You can buy either one in a dollar store.
Travelling in Europe I found if you don't tax anybody's vocabulary just about everyone knows how to speak English. Telling folks you're Canadian only says you've got them outclassed and they don't want to try. Academics might challenge you with monotone you don't want.
Well, actually, I can't remember and I'm far to lazy to go back and read old posts to remind myself. I don't think I ever posted a disagreement. I just remember often thinking that we're not of like mind. That's OK. If I were ever to meet a like-minded person I'd probably hate the bastard.
