Too bad, I thought they had a prayer. Florida is a football team on skates. Unbeatable.

I predict at least a 40 year drought.

This series is going 7 games again. Oilers have the tough guys to handle these mokes in Florida and the scoring talent up & down the bench. If Oils stay healthy and put Tkafuck in the hospital then the drought is over.

Weather and taxes ...or lack thereof is a big help to draw players in that corner of the US.

To me If the Oilers can not get the cup with so many 1st draft picks in the last 15 years it will be quite puzzling but I think their goaltending issue is their achilles heel as they don't have a goalie able to stand on his head long enough to get them out of trouble.

I would say if Oilers can win this, it would be the biggest upset in the history of the Stanley Cup Finals.

it's bad GM's

then coaching, even now, they're playing regular season hockey, shinny hockey

they've played playoff hockey at times this year, got away with it cause they have McJebus/Leon

it's not money, watch them, they won't hit anyone, I can't count how many times they could have flattened the other guy and just do the fly by poking their stick at them

they watch Florida's players go get the puck in the corners, even their own, Nurse a completely overpaid pylon, it's his MO

if you're going to play shinny hockey, you better pass the fucking puck perfectly, out position the other team

not to mention shoot the fucking puck at the actual net, not at the other guy's feet/shins/body

they lost last year for the same reasons

bad D and trying to be too pretty

not to mention constant mixing of lines, Coffey needs to be gone, quit pretending Bouchard can do anything other than take a slapshot

poor Mcdavid being wasted for a decade due to bad ownership

oilers have some good players, but they need to regroup now. i think they didn't shake things up enough in the last post season.

Panthers just proved to be a much tougher team. no surprise that they won.

Panthers more depth plus a rock star tendy. Oilers still havent got the memo. Dump Skinner & maybe pickard and cough up $$ for a stud goalie. Youll never win a cup with washed up mediocre tendy.

Kudos to Abbotsford for being in the position to prevent the Panthers from winning both the Stanley and Calder Cups - been 30 yrs since that's happened. Their organization's depth is impressive.

Panthers also know how to work the cap. Only one guy making $10 mil (Barkov) and then its MK at $9.5 compared to McD and Drai getting over $12.5 and $14 mil respectively. Highest paid Panthers D is getting $7 mil while Nurse gets over $9 mil.

Anyone can argue that McD and Drai "deserve" what they earn, but equally, every penny that they take out of the pot means less there to pay that supporting cast needed to keep winning in the post-season.

What kind of forward(s) could the Oilers sign with an additional $6.5 million a season? Having an extra $2 mil to find an upgrade on D?

Or maybe the full $8 to sign an actual goaltender?

The Laffs keep proving you can't win with 4 guys making $10 mil each and a shitty supporting cast.

Florida just keeps paying its player good money, just not comparably 'great' money.

i think this is very true. the oilers seem to have a problem with players who get paid a lumpsump of cash along with a goalie that isn't very seasoned. i think they did good this year and did somewhat breeze through the western conference, but if they were ever put up agaisnt the panthers again they would lose yet again. more concretely, if they were put agaisnt any team with a great defensive squad like the panthers they would lose.

the oilers just need to have more grits and need to be more greedy in regards to the goaltenders they appoint. multiple centers with big salaries is definitely not enough to offset this problem.

Panthers built on the Vegas model. Get everyone to buy in and take less to get more. It worked really well for Vegas until it didn't -- they tossed a lot of players to try to keep improving; new players cost more money, and then other players asked for more. And other teams started to figure out how to play against them better.

It will be interesting to see if the Panthers can make the model work again. Bennet may take a discount, and it will be interesting to see where Marchand ends up. One thing the Panthers have that Vegas didn't is Bob in Net.

Oilers will pay McJesus even more money, well pay Bouchard too much and have a traffic cone in net.

No it all comes down to all 3/4 lines playing at top efficiency, and throwing the checks around to intimidate the other team. Most big name players don't play all out, they try to last more than a few years. Now I am not sure you will get guys playing for more than 10-12 years before injuries sideline them.
