i bought some products from a company and enjoyed them alot. but i phoned them to stop sending me new products. they said sure no problem and they did stop. now here it is 3 months later and now they keep calling me like 3-4 times a day to try and sell me more stuff. i tell them no i don't want to buy anything politely. but after about a week of this i have now begone to basically yell at them until they hang up, all the while repeating i don't want any of their products.

so my question is how do you stop them from calling you? wasn't there some sort do not call list or something. and i live in canada and the company in the US if that makes a difference.any help you can give me would be much apprectiated

Ask to be put on their no call list. I believe there might be something similar to the CRTC in the us, and that is where you can lodge complaints

I finally lost patience when I got my third phone call from Capital One in four days last week. I had politely informed them I wasn't interested in anything they had to offer and that I have all the credit cards I am ever going to need. But the calls continued (I was usually receiving one a week until they went into the "let's phone this guy more often in an effort to break him down" mode) and I was much less polite with the poor woman who made the call that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

She told me she would put me on their "no-call" list but that there was a possibility that I might receive one or two more calls before that request worked its way through their system. So if this is indicative of how the no-call thing works, you simply have to ask them to put you on their no-call list (as SG4EVAH suggested) and theoretically the calls should stop. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to make note of the day and time you made the request and the name of the person to whom you made the request, though.

easy to do

yes it is quite right you do want to inform thm that you wish to be removed from their calling list. now I am sure you are but make sure you are nice about it. Unfortunatly tellemarkerts deal with a wide selection of people and really have no idea what has happened at that number prior to calling it ie you are having a roring fight with your wife about the kids. also take a name of who is calling and their imediate supervisor along with the date that your reqest was made. that way you can follow it up with the BBB in the company home state.

If you run your phone line through your modem (or use a pbx based system such as asterisk) you can in theory block specific numbers.

This is an example of a shareware program that claims to be able to do this (I haven't used it nor have I used this site for downloads - caveat emptor):

I've mentioned before there are other tricks for getting autodialers to hang up automatically. These work particularly well if your phone system requires an extension to be entered. In fact, just using extensions alone is probably enough to throw most of them off.

Phone Capital One a few hundred times to tell them you are not interested in their card.
I am thinking about phoning the Jehovah's Witnesses right now.

fyi there is not a "no call list" in Canada as there is in the States. However, if they continue to call you it is harrasment.

yes there is ... you have to go to the Canadian Marketing association's
web-site and look for it ... you enter your information and your phone number
and it takes about 6 months (they say six weeks, but not all
telemarketers up-date their lists that often) for the calls to stop but they will stop.

it is a 'voluntary' thing but MOST of them do follow the guidelines.

as well, it only 'lasts' 3 years and you have to re-register ... same if
you move or get a new phone number.

here's the first link: http://www.the-cma.org/consumer/protectingprivacy.cfm

here's the second link: look for the red highlighted link to register on this page: http://www.the-cma.org/consumer/donotcontact.cfm

I too, have this problem..

Is there a 'No call list' for Wives? Cause if there is..I really want to be put on it.

I can see it now...."Wives! If I'm suspected of shagging your husbands...please refer to the no call list to see if I'm listed. If so, please take up your complaint with your philandering husband and refrain from contacting me."

:D  :p ;) :)
LOL! That's hilarious Avarice! How would you screen those calls out?!?
