How legal is this? I've dabbled in it for a few years but there is always that fear that I could get arrested or something? Is that a real possibility?

That depends upon what you mean by "get in trouble" and "these girls."

For example, if you are married and your wife finds out somehow, that might be considered getting in trouble.

right here and now
You can only get in shit if you actually POST A REVIEW after you've seen an SP.
Since you've never bothered to contribute to this board while lurking and leeching info for the last couple of years you should be safe.

As of December 6, 2014, when the new laws were enacted (search bill C-36), it is now illegal in Canada to "obtain sexual services for consideration" or to even "communicate for the purpose of obtaining sexual services for consideration." And yes, the penalties if you're caught include fines and possible jail time. There are a number of threads in the lounge about this. I'm on my phone, so am unable to provide links at the moment but it should be searchable. Unfortunately, there is still a lot of contradictory opinions, even among so called legal experts but the gist is that it is absolutely illegal to be a client.

Edit: Here's a link with a general summary of the new laws - http://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/other-autre/protect/p1.html

The argument has always been with sp's is that you pay them for their time, not sexual services. What ever happens behind a closed door is between two consenting adults. Now with regards to illegal immigrants, you could get dragged into a bunch of legal problems.

It really is a grey area this whole getting arrested/fined or whatever. I see escorts advertising all these services, full service, daty, etc. I guess they just say that on their website as "these are the type of things I may do on our DATE"? Or something of that sort. Again you pay an escort for "time and companionship like BD said.
Now with regards to massage places you pay for a room fee and time with a masseuse. After getting a nice massage you strike a nice "connection" with her and decide to get frisky together as two "mature, consenting adults." Behind a closed door nobody can prove you discussed for example $50 for a hj, $80 for bj.....clothes off etc, etc. You have your fun and tip her for the "great massage". Hell I tip waitresses, my barber and cab drivers and that's not illegal.
I have heard that there is a law about masseuses getting naked or something but again I think it boils down to two consenting adults doing something behind a closed door, and the shop owner pretending to not know what's happening.
