On what occasion would a bunch of old men be showering together? Playing team sports when younger, no big deal.....no one stares at another guy's junk...there might be some towel snapping towards the rookies but that's about the extent of it.

I remember playing basketball and then showering at the YMCA years ago, and no kidding, instead of facing towards the showers,, everyone one was facing outwards. First and Last time.

Depends upon the Sport IMHO.

Golfers and Tennis players are like the younger athletes.

Rugby players and other British Empire Sports teams are like the older athletes. Beer in one hand and some walking around without a towel on.

It's exactly like that at the Ymca. Younger guys will always use the showers with the curtains, dry off inside and come out with a towel or in their shorts. Old guys will use the open showers and dry off in view of everyone.

there are so many variations on locker rooms. In say high school, we just went for the nude, the showers, the drying off afterwards, no concerns about privacy etc. At most men's groups in pools, gyms, etc, same thing. Most guys aren't worried about showing what they got nor to we criticize those who tend to cover it for personal or cultural reasons. But I can see in a golf change room, maybe no shower, may everyone is dressed, and perhaps for some other sports.

well if you want to know just meet me at the Y and I will take you into the men's locker room and introduce you. lol

How do professional athletes feel about having female sports journalists in their lockers rooms pre or post game. Does it inhibit them at all?
I've always seen that as a double-standard.Are male sports journalists allowed inside female locker rooms? Not that I'm aware of.

It absolutely is a double standard. However, most sports journalists (especially the male ones) are hardly what I'd call professionals so I think it's safe to cut a little slack on this one.

I'm all for equal rights for both genders and in principle agree that male journalists should be allowed in female locker rooms just as much as female journalists should be allowed in male locker rooms. That being said, we don't live in a world where ideals can be immediately implemented. In our current world, it is not the same thing. In general, men have been raised to believe that it is acceptable to leer and consider a naked woman to be a sexual thing.

Do some female journalists leer at men in a men's locker room? Sure, but I bet a lot don't. They've had to fight really hard just to be let into that locker room and they're going to keep that by being as professional about it as possible. Do you think the same would apply to men being allowed into a women's locker room? I don't. Just look at the current state of sports media and tell me that it's not a boy's club. Of course there are male journalists who would keep it strictly professional, but I'm willing to bet that they're in the minority and that a lot of women in those locker rooms would feel extremely uncomfortable.

Equality is a long road filled with bumps and hills. The solution to this problem starts with education at a young age. Children start out thinking everyone is equal and we teach them otherwise as they grow up. Fix that problem and these other ones go away over time.

Oh there's no fight. We just have a different take on the issue. I definitely acknowledge that my view is a half measure when looking at equality as a whole.
