Camping ideas?

The missus and I are talking about doing some camping, car camping to be specific. I'd be much more open to doing the hike-in, isolated style camping on my own or with the guys, but she's more interested in a simple 2 day trip. Any suggestions for somewhere within a 2 hour drive from Vancouver? Hoping for a lake/river to be able to do some fishing as well.

Unfortunately, it would have to be accessible via car, so that kinda limits our options, I'm sure. I'm open to recommendations.

I'm open to the Chilliwack area also. But probably won't be heading to the island for a camping experience.

When I saw this thread I had a few ideas. but I do not know Vancouver well> Chilliwack Lake is awsome, much better in July or August. I floated around the lake last summer beautifulI..The Island is great to take the logging roads and find lots of isolted areas on rivers and lakes. That is my camping and fishing too!

I am sure the folks will give you more ideas. Have fun.

Great info. I imagine I can find this at MEC or 3 Vets? Oh shoot, 3 Vets is closing down soon, just remembered.

Get yourself a Backroads Mapbook, They list all kinds of campgrounds and Forestry Service Rec Sites where you can camp in the back country for free or next to nothing. Detailed info regarding road quality and recommended type of vehicle to get to the spots.

Within a 2 hour drive from Van, I would have to say Lake Chilliwack or Cultus Lake. I go camping there at least once a year.

Yup, drove there during May Long but without rezzies and it was completely full. It's definitely on the list to head back there. Curious to know if there's any decent fishing there, looks like it might be heavily fished, and even with re-stocking, it might be light.

Hicks Lake is a more tranquil spot if you have a vehicle that can handle the road in.

there are a number of spots along the Chilliwack river, some forestry and one provincial at the end of the road. Hope has Silver lake, Silvertip and Ross lake. Boston bar has Blue Lake and across the river are a number of lakes, Hannah, Frances and Nahatlach. If you don't mind hike in camping, Eaton Lake is great.
What's the word on the street, about just camping on Crown land? You know, drive up some Forestry Services road and find a nice lake, pitch a tent... :eyebrows:

Try Blue lake out really nice lake fishing hummingbirds wildlife and you can camp, get a small cabin at a reasonable price your wife can shower!
Its just a short drive from Van... http://www.bluelakeresort.ca/
ease your better half into camping and she will want to go again...
Look up forestry service campsites lots of them and they are mostly free...

Thanks for all the suggestions, keep them coming, the missus will be happy. I'm looking at Chehalis or Hicks for the next sunny wkd with the wife.

But I'm also feeling the inner kid in me, and wanting to play Survivorman, so looking at some more remote, hike in destinations. I guess I'll try out what's out on Crown land.
