Lots of work up there think it's 80/20% split non-union/union.Clac claims to be a union, but naw.they're not.The thing is you gotta put grub on the table so i hope you find something.
Not sure how old you are but i would strongly suggest taking up a trade, the pool of workers is only getting smaller as the baby boomers start leaving the work force.
Good luck too you.

Well first of all, you may want to figure out where to apply.

But I would just move to Fort Mac and start asking. A friend of mine moved there, got a job as a receptionist at a car dealership, and is now working at one of the camps.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
according to the oil men i am having breakfast with, you should put your name in first in calgary oil companies, then in red deer and lastly edmonton.

they also said, quit smoking pot. companies are screaming for people as the drug testing policies have left them short handed. one positive pot test and you are out.

they also warned against simply moving out to fort mac. people who try this sometimes get trapped in these remote places as they cannot find work. you need to go through calgary and have a job to go to, do not wing it...

precision was one big company mentioned as having bought a number of other companies. also when i googled "oil companies in alberta" lots of them came up. as well as some government links that might help you avoid bad employers out there.

the bottom line of what these guys are saying is they need people, lots of people. so apply to a whole bunch and see who makes you the best offer. once you have secured a job, then head out there to work!

good luck and make sure to buy some long underwear!! these guys are talking about -50/-60 degrees with high wind....no wonder these jobs pay so well!!!

love susie

LOL...I bet she did! The men tell me it does get lonely up there for a woman. All those horny men and not a female near by.
She normally doesn't do more than 2 or 3 sessions a day here in Winnipeg, but apparently there it was like 7 - 10. The demand was just that high for SP's, and she said she made so much money in that week it was almost like 2 months of working here....

If his concern is providers. Get on with the unions and work in SK. Lots closer to the TCH and most of the pot ash mines are close to actual cities. I can't speak for the rest of the trades but electricians under the SK agreement don't make that much less than AB. And it only gets to about -40 where I work, very mellow. And seeing how it's union you aren't slave driven.

1st thing you need to work in Alberta is CSTS which is a safety training course required to work on most if not all work sites. You can take it at numerous places in BC or on line.

CLAC is a RAT union under the control of the contractors your better off to go to a trade union they all have offices here in Vancouver and can steer you where you should apply
Yea I was being sarcastic about clac. I'm an IBEW member so you can imagine how I feel about clac, in fact I'm lounging around right now in a "if you've got the clac we've got the cure" tshirt.

I work on site.
If you have a trade you need to join a union, clac is a union formed to bust unions.
As you said you just want to be a labourer, then try applying with PCL, kiewit, Flint, denegold, northern crane, North American and K2.
What your looking for is companies who have contracts on site.
You also need tickets, just the basic stuff depending on what your going to be doing, h2s and csts. Call up some of the places in nisku that offer courses. They are like a test you take for a few hours on computer.

Camps are dry, means no drinking no drugs, there is money to be made here however often jobs are given to a friend of a friend. Just keep trying and be ready for keystone xl.
