I know, I should be wearing gloves for these things but I dont. So I'll have to start.

It's a boring life in the middle of nowhere so I lift weights and whack balls at the driving range alot (the course is a bloody cow pasture, no thanks). I'm getting sizable callouses on the palm side of my big knuckles from lifting, and both thumbs get big blisters (which invariably end up ripping off because it doesn't stop me from hitting golf balls) from golf.

Lots of hand cream/moisturizer was doing the trick for awhile, but it's not cutting it anymore the offensive skin areas are just getting too big, and I'm starting to feel a little bad about using my hands much on another person. What are the options? Is a pumus (spelling?) stone the only way to go?

I might be wrong here, but if you're getting blisters from golf, you might have an issue with your grip. Don't grip your shaft so hard (ha, ha!). Seriously though, are you wearing a glove? I used to lift weights years ago and the callouses were so bad that if I didn't cut them down with toenail clippers every month, they'd just rip off during a lift - not much fun. Use a nail file on them after you cut them down. If you're unlucky enough to rip one off, go to the drugstore and get a bottle of friar's balsam and put some on about 4 times/day. Stings like hell at first, but you'll be all healed up and able to grip the bar again barehanded in under a week.

Nothing rips off, and it doesn't prevent me from lifting (or the blisters from playing golf, yes I do grip hard with my thumbs, keeps me from pushing the ball out right too much). It's just it's starting to give my hands a "rough" feel (in a more unpleasent way) when touching someone elses bar skin.

Owie....this is why I request a gloved hand when touching and fingering me!

Shoppers Drug Mart sells a foot scrubber that may help. I find good pumous stones hard to find.
