Holy Shit 107.7!!!

Hmmm, not bad considering I've had cancer 4x. You'd think I was placed here on Earth for a reason.

BMI is not accurate/consistant as muscle weighs more than fat.

on it's own without any other test done (ie calipers) it is not reliable.
Yes, but I did have it done with calipers and the number is within half a percent of what that BMI test calculated, so since the results are that similar, I am suggesting it is pretty accurate. But of course not with extreme cases of unusual proportion i.e. more than average musculature. The most accurate is supposed to be the water displacement test which looks pretty hokey as well...maybe the most hokey...

I think I'm just wording things wrong MG..the BMI test does not include calipers or any other instrument..it's just a mathematical calculation and nothing else. and I wouldn't say that it's only inacurate with just extreme cases as Iam not a body builder or anything else ,even when I was in much better shape way back when. But the test took things to the extreme for me and could have cost me my career at the time until someone actually had a look at me instead of the numbers on a piece of paper and saw how inacurate it actually was. ;)

I understand that the BMI is a measure that does not determine what shape you are in at all, just the ratio of fat which means little. But I think I am wording things wrong, because as far as I know there are 3 ways to test your body mass index(BMI).
#1 Your link for the quiz
#2 having your fat physically measured with calipers
#3 Hydrostatic weighing Although that last link has other ways I didn't look into.

Having done 2 out of 3 tests, I find they are both in agreement, so I'm saying the test of yours may be accurate in determining fat percentage. The levels for "lean" health are ridiculous, something like under 12% for men and 17% for women. They do mean little or nothing, the only use is if you dip below 7% for men it is very unhealthy (something to do with testicls shrinking) and 12%for women, but under a certain percent the breasts disappear(I.E bodybuilders and anorexics).

Why the military uses this system is beyond me.

Well that's why they do not use it anymore. Especially when some of CAF members who were being wrongly assesed, to the point of possible release, started to speak up against it's use. I guess the term BMI has been explained to me as just being the mathematical assesment, and the other tests (which are much more accurate, ie calipers etc) were not included as part of that term.

Yes I know, spliting hairs. Oh well, my apologies if I came across as argumentative, it just hit home with me because of my prior experience with that one test only.

I have had the others, including one done through sensors attached to various places on the body, ie foot and sends a signal of some sort (me no techie..lol) through the body to determine fat percentages etc. All that being said, I know at the current time Iam definitely not in shape. I have to go to the fire dept to use their "Jaws of Life" in place of the calipers ;)
