you can get up and running for under $100
IT would have to be an external model. Any ideas if it would work with a P3 700 with XP Pro? I know, I know I run a dinosaur, but it is my first laptop.;)

Most of them that I've seen need a faster machine then you have. If you have a desktop internal is the way to go as they run around $49. where as external start at $100.

if someone could provide SIMPLE and STRAIGHT FORWARD instructions on what I need to do to download movies I'd probably buy them a blowjob

Correct me if I'm wrong but...

XP Pro running on a P3 700 must be painfully fuckin' slow. You'd likely get a performance increase if you clean-installed Windows 98 on it. Worked for me when I had my old laptop.

Why don't you use some of the money you earn from your business and actually do what the average honest person does... pay for their movies. Yes, actors are overpaid... movies are overpriced... movies are overhyped... and honestly, I don't care what u do in your private life, but do u really need to advertise an illegal activity on PERB?

If new is too expensive (which I totally think it is sometimes), why don't u buy them used? I get almost all my DVD's for $24 for 3 at Rogers... and they are like new... worst case if I don't like em, I flip them at Blockbluster for $4-$5 a piece... thereby essentially making it a rental...

If it's a really good one I buy them new while on sale at FS, Best Buy, etc.

Not trying to judge you... but if you're gonna pirate movies, why not pirate only the crappy ones? For good movies like Gladiator and Narnia... why not support them to encourage more movies like that to be made instead of the typical crap that is being shoved down our throats these days.

Which Gladiator? This one http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104346/ or lackluster one that followed it?:D

Doesnt really run that bad on it. I use the comp for the net, chatting email and thats about it. Thought about putting Win98 onto it, but I dont want to touch it lol too scared anything will happen and then I would be up shit creek without a paddle, as this is my only comp.

The lackluster one that followed it. There seems to be people that either love it or hate it. Bottom line... the production values were suberb, the sound was incredible, and the score will never be matched "in this life or the next"... Hans Zimmer's best work ever.

The original 2 disc version was the best... the 3 disc set that came out didn't have DTS sound and it actually made a huge difference... but the bonus features on the 3 disc set rocked!

how to or not

The best place for info on this stuff for converting and burning

http://www.digital-digest.com/

The best way to download I find is emule for peer to peer

http://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=1

and Azureus for bit torrent

http://azureus.sourceforge.net/

HOWEVER after being through this there is a much easier method than burning DVD's - at least if you don't want to watch on the road or anything. You can get an enclosure for a standard laptop or standard 3.5" hard drives that will play/decode the files you download with Azureus or Emule. They plug right into your TV and have a remote. You just download the files right onto it, plug it into your TV and play away. There are several makers. I personally have this one:

http://www.usbmax.com/view_product_...&categorynames=USB Enlosures&categoryidds=131

This is much easier than converting and burning to DVD. There are also DVD players that are DIVX compatable that will directly play the files you download without having to convert them. You'd just need to burn the avi files onto a CD or DVD et voila.
