i have an associate who works at the bank and says that he is being inundated by retail investors wanting to get into the market. have they never heard of a bull trap? wonder how they're going to feel once they find out they've bought into a company that was already insolvent?

If you're 100 percent sure that a recent uptick in a particular stock is merely a start of a bull trap, short it and you'll make money! Playing the market isn't just about buying (i.e. taking the long position), you can take the short position and profit from a declining share price as well. Or you can do both, thereby using one of those positions as a hedge.
Markets recovered 50 percent of recent drawdown this morning. Formidable resistance at 61.8 level, the 200 day moving average. Pundits warn that a near term retest of low is necessary. Without that retest market would grind even lower over coming quarters.
After the Spanish flu receded the markets bounced back incredibly high. Remember the Roaring 20's? Remember what happened a few years later? The Great Depression. 100 years later does history repeat itself?Just sayin.

Not buying Amazon at $16 per isn't a failure. Not buying Amazon at $30 per is not a failure. Failure is waiting for the price to go down, finally it comes down to a price that you see as "a good price", you finally buy only to realize shortly thereafter that you were the last person to buy a beta-max machine
