Well voters usually get what they deserve and in this case it's going to cost taxpayers millions upon millions for the citizens of B.C. to tell it's politicians that they were pissed off about the way this tax was brought forth and how it was implemented.

As for the NDP this must be some kind of a joke, them waging a campaign against the HST and then wanting the federal government to relieve them of the obligiation to pay back the money they received for introducing the HST.

B.C.'s federal New Democrats called on the Harper government to write off the $1.6 billion the province is expected to return now that the HST will be rescinded.

“Small businesses of all types suffered significant losses due to the HST,” said Don Davies, chairman of the NDP B.C. caucus.

“It would be both spiteful and damaging for Harper to now force BC to pay back $1.6 billion, after it was already invested in things like health care and education.”

Vancouver has always been a shithole city for business and people looking for "good paying stable" jobs. Sorry politicians...a city full of shitty retail jobs, gas stations, coffee shops, hotels, and banks doesn't = the greatest city in the world...with OVERPRICED real estate!

Interesting side note that it came out that the HST was NOT revenue neutral as originally proposed and it was a $2B Cash Cow. Now they have to scramble to find a new source of revenue. This came out via Kevin Falcon as reported by Keith Baldrey in Victoria.

We will most likely see the HST for at least another 12 - 18 months.

personally i would like to see income tax abolished and be replaced by a gst/hst. everybody pays something - those that spend more, pay more. really simple, and how good or bad a job the government is doing is right there in your face - vote 'em in or vote 'em out depending on how high they propose to set the rate

Nope it wont help the BC Liberal Party (who are Liberal in name only)....it will help the NDP who will most likely form the next BC Provincial Government.....which will be followed by a couple of minor hiccups along the way and another election which will be won by the NDP which will be followed up by some major scandals.....which of course will lead to the BC Liberals being elected to a majority and the whole process/circle of BC political life will begin again.......from having lived in BC for some time and being in Alberta for the last 13 years it is easily predictable LOL

At the end of the day....no matter which party has control.....a shitbox/fixer-upper house in Vancouver still costs 1 million and rising and BC stands for Bring Cash.....and lots of it.....yeah the mild winters are nice if you live in the lower mainland....go up to Prince George in November and it is as cold as Edmonton....but your food costs more....and so does a house.

the whole year and a half thing is bullshit. didn't take that long to implement it. as well both falcon and chrusty admitted they pretty much knew the referendum would kill the tax. so knowing that with the referendum being the topic of the last year, the bastards should have already had a plan in place for the switch back, and these meetings with ottawa about the 1.6 billion should already have taken place. the system should be changed back within 6 months. however they are going drag their feet so they can bleed every little cent out of it.

as for the political scene looks like we're stuck with chrusty until a forced election in 2013. just another problem of the canadian political system that someone who was not elected into office as premier by the public gets to hold onto the job without a mandate for basically 3 years. this should be changed to where if a premier steps down mid-term, the new goverment with whoever the delegates chose as premier must call a general election within a year.

same with this referendum. it should go one step further. the fact that the electorate of the province has democratically voted to kill a government initiative should be viewed as a vote on non-confidence, same as it would be in the house of commons during the days of the minority governments. the government should be forced to dissolve and call an immediate election.

of course are options suck as the two party system in this province is a joke.

I need to find a way to make a living without paying income tax. All of my tax $$ are funding the unsustainable way of life of NDP voting free riders.

I think we learned from all this is you can only treat people like shit and push them so far before something breaks.

They are also finding that out in Syria, Libya and Egypt.

The Liberal Party created this entire fiasco - not me, not VanderZalm, not the NDP, not even Harper. The BC Liberal Party and their arrogance. They had plenty of opportunity to discuss the tax before the election, had plenty of chances to correct things after the stupid introduction and blew every chance. Don't blame the public who had the tax foisted on them.

Kevin Fallse-one, he of the ridiculous scare tactics, now says it's not a big problem. You know - the same guy who claimed it was revenue neutral. Who could ever believe anything this guy says?

The other thing learned is the "experts" touting the tax, the business people promoting it and the government trying to scare people into keeping it just weren't believed by a lot of people who could see for themselves how the HST was negatively affecting them.

The arrogance of the pro HST pushers, certain their position was the only right one and so dismissive of anyone who would dare challenge them also was annoying to a lot of people.

An interesting statistic I heard - not one government in Canada was re-elected after introducing the HST or, federally the GST.
