Brake shops cost so much because they have to do the whole routine for legal reasons, any one with a basic tool box should be able to change their front pads..The trick is to get the old piston back in place before atempting to put new ones in. The best way to do this is to pry back the old pads before you remove them, use a big screwdriver, make sure piston is all the way back or you will have grief putting new pads in.Get a book from libary or CTC to guide you, when you remove old pads ,look to see if they are worn even ,if not your calipers are sticking {common] buy new calipers, most pluse you feel on brake pedal is caused by some idiot who bangs wheels on with a impact wrench and warps them, They must be torqued each and every time they are put on.. My recomandation for good quality work and a job done right would be Cal Tire, at least I know there honest and a fair price. You only get what you pay for.... Please Please don't let just anyone work on brakes
