Unfortunately a TOTAL WASHOUT. 4 out of the 25 invited showed up, so we went to the Keg for dinner instead! Perhaps the holiday had something to do with it. Luckily, I didn't loose my shirt $ on this one. Might try again as many were originally interested.

BTW ... thanks to all that inquired by PM about the condition of my father, the emergency surgery was a success and he's recovering nicely. Your thoughts are MUCH APPRECIATED.

Personally I think this was a total slap in the face for Quimby. Only two guys called and one lady to get more details on the room number etc.

He really tried hard to be the social planner on this one and he had over 20 males and females say "oh yeah I am coming for sure etc etc" And then everyone comes up with " oh I am busy with family etc etc". He had almost $200.00 of his own money laid out to try and host this event and was lucky to salvage most of the money back.

I am pissed off and not as politically correct as Quimby because when someone goes to this effort and gets positive feedback about the idea and then get a huge egg dropped on his lap makes zero sense to me.

I have to agree with Slothy on this one. It's pretty poor form to indicate you're gung ho on the idea then back out at the last minute, knowing Quimby has laid out money to stage the event. Frankly, I haven't the slightest interest in meeting any fellow pooners so I wasn't one of the ones who gave Quimby to believe I was interested. But the ones who did, then didn't show, should give their heads a shake and think things through a little more carefully if there's ever a next time for something like this.

Sorry to hear about this. Here's a suggestion for next time: make people pay a deposit (say $50) through PayPal to reserve a spot, and have the deposit refundable at the door. This way, you know you'll get a commited response and those who arrive aren't out any cash. Just a suggestion; take it or leave it.

I'm curious to know what ladies were there. Would someone mind pming me the names?

I'm sorry, but I've gotta say something here. What did you expect was going to happen, and what do you think the police would have to say about all this? So many things with this idea were so wrong. And I don't mean that in a condescending and mean spirited way. First off, who want's their real name to be known? Isn't the purpose of this board anonymity? Wasn't there a big flap about certain people being "outed" just a little while ago? Secondly there's this statement, "If someone is there to chat and watch others - so be it. I'm sure some won't mind "playing" with the door open a little." If you were inferring that you were going to rent a suite and expect some "escapades" to be happening, and advertised the fact, well, that's not very smart. And all the talk about money, that's bordering on illegal isn't it? I see in other city's that ladies and gent's get together for drinks, but as far as I know, no one's advertised like this fiasco. Just my two cents.

Easy to criticize Quimby but no one else has come up with anything. That doesn't necessarily mean that I would have attended if I lived in the area but if someone has a better plan, I'm sure Quimby would love to hear it.

It is unfortunate that there were so many no-shows when Quimby had to turn so many requests away.

For some of us, anonymity is non-riskable.

I am 1000 percent the police have zero interest in this idea. First of all this was a private party that wasn't advertised on Power 97 etc.

All I am saying is for the guys that no showed and didn't call and the girls as well is poor business.

The PayPal idea makes sense to me as well ( good idea BTW)

I do not agree Slothy not poor business, maybe poor etiquette.I beleive that anyone that needed to give Quimby an apology has.I also feel that sometimes we do not have control of what the future holds.Promises are made to be broken..Shit happens..

Hey everyone, it's done. Let's move on.

However, I will be the first to jump on someone, if it is ever suggested in the near future that "We need to plan something like the PERBs do in Edmonton, or Vancouver. Let's all get together and socialize as a group"...

Fuck that - just keep it all behind closed doors.

Now there's a terrific philosophy by which to live. Silly me ... I've gone through life thinking making a promise actually meant something.
