So are they for real? I have been watching them more and more, pretty exciting teams...for baseball anyways.
Anyone think they can keep this up?
Their batting order is pretty deadly.

6 runs against Verlander today, so far.

I love going to Canadian games I went to at least a dozen last year. Just be nice to have a professional team to follow, Seattle and Toronto have both sucked so bad, most of my adult life.
Back when the team was AAA, I went to a lot of their games in Portland, I really like that stadium they have down there.

Finally, somebody mentions the word baseball. It has been a while here.

IMHO the Jays are for real, and, outside out the Bay Area, they might be the best team in all of baseball.

They are fortunate to be getting hot in a season when the AL East is about as weak as it has been in years.

Never know.

And I wholeheartedly agree with what has been said about the Canadians and the Nat are true.

I started watching them years ago when they were an A's farm team, yet I still enjoy the the Nat experience.

After the MLB draft over the next few days, the rosters will begin to get set up.

Its still early but they do look good, great defence and hitting, but starting pitching could use one more quality starter. If they stay healthy they might make the playoffs.

Right on the Blue Jays win with bases loaded and a home run by Bautista in the bottom of the 19th!!
Actually, it was a single over the right fielder's head who had to play shallow to have a chance for the sac fly at the plate. Not meaning to be picky on that, it was fairly exciting for baseball. Fun to play, tough to watch for the most part. I prefer sports that are quicker paced.

Jays are in Seattle for a 3 game set starting Monday. First time in years both teams are competitive, both are fighting for the final wild card spot. Wonder how many Canadians will be heading down south again this year to watch the games? Safeco is always a fun atmosphere but triple the fun when the Jays are in town?

Well I'm trying to keep positive about the BlueJays but wow were is the offence? But things are looking good for the only team with a longer playoff drought then the BlueJays so it might be time to get on the KC Royals bandwagon

3 game sweep of the Mariners over the Blow Jays. Love it when a season falls apart at the end like soo many other previous seasons.

The Blow Jays have lost six straight road games and have five more on the trip before returning to Toronto.
Yup at the start of August they had a chance of winning the East or a wild card. Now they have lost 7 of 10 games against other wild card fighting teams. Losing 3 big bats to injury and AA didnt make a trade to help the offence is mind boggling. No playoffs for 20+ years is way too long.

I grew up in Toronto, went to the first game at Exhibition Stadium, and also went to the first game in Skydome (as it was known then).

Celebrated wildly when they won the first world series.

When Carter hit the home run for the second world series, celebration was a bit different. I remember watching it while doing my GF doggy style. We chose this position so we could both watch the game. :)

They have a good team this year but are inconsistent. If they get in and get hot for the playoffs, they could win it all. If they go cold they will be wiped out quickly. I think for them it is either dominate teams or be dominated.

The Jays looked really good at the start of the season, but as they tend to do down the stretch is get tired, namely, with their pitching. Despite having the bats, they simply do not have a confident rotation and no clear cut ace. Look at the roster and a lot to do with it has to do with age or lack of production.

R.A. Dickey is a knuckleballer that is getting long in the tooth, and his individual record speaks for itself. Mark Buehrle is in the same boat and losing control of his once money fastball that he had when he was with the White Sox. Don't even get me started on Happ. Drebek is also shaky and is reluctantly going to be moved to the bullpen - the first time in any league that he's been in.

The other problem is that there are teams in the AL that are just stacked with pitching (Detroit, Oakland) and it doesn't help that you are in the East with a lot of teams that just chip away at wins, as opposed to the mediocre Central.

Get the pitching straightened out, and the wins will come (as long as they can hold onto Bautista, Encarnacion, Cabrera and company).

It wasn't really starting pitching that has let them down, they stopped scoring runs. Rasmus and Lawrie were barely hitting .200 most of the year before injuries. Losing most of the middle of your order (Lind, Encancion & Lawrie) would be bad for any team. The guys they brought up can't hit at the major league level (Gones, Gose) If personality scored runs Kawasaki would be a monster, but it doesn't so he has 10 RBI in late August & he's played a lot. The bullpen that was more than solid last year but this year has been a crap shoot at best. They emptied the farm system 2 years ago to get the guys they have now & are out of money so now the GM has to start picking through the the scrap heap for gems (Navvaro, Francisco, Valencia) all serviceable players with a major flaw (can't run, strikes out too much, can't hit a curveball, gets hurt. They are a disappointment to be sure but to blame pitching is far too simplistic

Yes that may be, but a team like Toronto isn't going to blast teams away with high scoring games. Sometimes they can score runs, but sometimes they can't. My point is that if they had a solid rotation and their bullpen could help them out, they are not far off. They have a fundamental roster with Reyes all the way to Navarro and should compete late in the season almost as well as they did in June. True, pitchers need run support, but I can't think of one guy that is intimidating nor a bona fide winner. I would trade Happ and Dickey in a heartbeat.

Trade Dickey & Happ for what exactly? Other teams know what these guys are about. Dickey makes 14 million this year. If you were a contender (the only teams looking to add through a trade) what would you be prepared to give up to get him this year? The blue jays are entirely reliant on home runs to win. They aren't a base stealing team and God knows they aren't a fundamentally sound enough team to manufacture runs through situational hitting. When the long ball dries up so do the wins.
They aren't a lost cause Melky has been outstanding, Reyes has really turned it on after the injuries & Bautista has been solid but has suffered because there is no one to hit behind him to protect him. They will walk him everytime the game is tight if it means facing Navvaro or Rasmus

I'm an Orioles fan...hit a bump in the road against the Cubs, but that's baseball, team is still in pretty good shape, although injuries may ultimately catch up to them...can I ask a question about RA Dickey...seems like a nice enough guy in interviews, but what's the fascination with him as a front-line pitcher...guy is like 40 years old and he has had one good season...throw out the outlier season, and he is like 65-75 for his career...give me a break.
