I have always managed to keep it professional with the ladies but i have heard stories about clients that dont, some stories i believed and some not.

I cant imagine any adult acting in the manner that Megan described but now im curious to know how often a client actually turns stalker.

Ladies does this type of thing happen often or is it the exception?
yes... add to that the declined clients, girlfriends, wives, heavy breathers, teenage boys, prank callers etc... they tend to call from blocked numbers...

i have gotten up to 25 successive calls from one person in a row, daily nasty pornographic voicemails from the same person (went on for a month)...

these are certainly the exception however being on the recieving end of just one of these phone calls can be very unsettling... so it's a personal decision that i and other ladies choose not pick up on restricted numbers.

the gentlemen who do not want to get an anonymous sim card to plunk into their existing cell phone can call the ladies who do choose to accept blocked calls and everybody will be happy and in their comfortzone

As a business owner I do advertise my number. I get harassed by every marketing company around. Do I bitch and complain saying I will only answer unblocked numbers?

No,I don't. I live with it as a part of business. If it bothers me that much I will close it down.

You advertise your number in this industry. That is your choice. It will have good and bad points. If you don't want the phone ringing use an email address only. It has been done with success.

SP's do what they think will minimize inconveniences. That is understandable. All the power to you.

I'll jump through some hoops to see a SP that I think would be a good time. I won't go out of my way. If it's too much trouble I'll pass. It's a simple concept. You make thinks to difficult you lose business.

My post isn't about what's right and what's wrong.

Are we talking about the same thing?

"Call Screen
From Telus it's called anonomous call rejection, a recording comes on, states that you dont accept anonomous or unknown calls, to reach you they have to state their name, or unblock number

I also do not accept blocked calls but that is because someone who has complete access to all my sites uses my business number to harrass and generally make life unpleasant. I have decided that I will no longer accept those calls, I am not trying to offend anyone, and everyone has the right to hang up when they hear my voice mail message and call another lady. One guy phoned me, left a message and told me to go find somebody else, but...........he called me, lol. Cheers, Dana Vee

Actually there is a trick that people who set up call centers do to prevent this sort of problem. They have a recording of the "not in service" tone (those 3 notes) and play that before having their software pick up the call.

Many of the telemarkers are using autodialers that dial random numbers and they have to automatically screen out bad numbers and their equipment will hang up automatically when they hear it.

Oddly enough I used to get telemarketing calls to my pay as you go cell phone but now that I'm using Voice over IP I've received no unsolicited calls. I'm using a smaller provider and the sound quality is often terrible so I'm not going to recommend them.

http://voip-info.org/wiki/ is a pretty good resource on this stuff.

General comment about controlling phone use

There is technology for managing calls that can reduce or remove many problems. Its something that I've been interested in for a while.

For example, its not hard to set up a server and route calls through it and basically hide people's phone numbers.

You can also set up the server to behave appropriately for various situations (eg ask for a number to call the person back if they are calling from a blocked number or take a message).

One way to reduce the volume of calls of course is to give customers an up to the minute idea of your availability - also not difficult to do. Ideally this would be accessible from the web or phone. Its much better to have a message saying I'll be back at 2 than I'm not here right now.

I've mentioned this before and would be interested in working on an actual prototype. If anyone is interested pm me.
